The Purpose of the Ivy League Navy is twofold:
- Protect and defend the Ivy League Alliance against any and all attackers.
- Help PVP oriented students develop training plans and skills that will assist them in learning PVP at various levels from small gang up to larger fleet operations.
It is also hoped that, by helping students, we will extend the dwell time of Ivy pilots, fielding a more experienced navy against our foes. The Navy will hold fundraising activities and provide a means for practice engagement as well as ILN anti-piracy operations. It is NOT a group just to get additional, constant PVP. ILN members are expected to be willing to help take leadership in regards to starting and conducting fundraising activities as well as PVP oriented activities within Ivy policy and Rules of Engagement. ILN members are held to a higher standard of behavior than regular Ivy personnel.
Upon enlistment to Battlegroup 1 and its training squadron, you have sworn in with the following oath:
I (insert name here) do solemnly swear to uphold the code of conduct for Eve University and the Ivy League Navy. I pledge to commit myself to 4-months of minimum service to Battlegroup 1 and to my peers in the ILN. I will use the knowledge I bring in, and that which is taught to me to better myself and to continue forging new directions for the University.
In times of war, I vow to place my ship and my corpse in the line of fire to protect my fellow students and if necessary sacrifice myself to ensure total victory. This is the task that has been presented to me as a pilot and as a member of the ILN and I accept the responsibility. So help me Uber!
Remember to bear in mind that your commitment for enlisting directly into Battlegroup 1 of the Ivy League Navy is four (4) months, one (1) month longer than the typical commitment to the ILN. If you drop from EVE University before your commitment has completed, the ILN will consider you a deserter and you will not be allowed to re-enlist in the ILN should you rejoin EVE University. This means that there is no dropping from the corporation even during wartime.
If during your enlistment time a real-life event occurs that will require a significant or complete reduction in your activity with the ILN, please let your commanding officer know before you disappear so we don’t worry about your sudden disappearance. We understand that real-life events happen, sometimes at very inopportune times. However, you must keep your character enlisted in the ILN and EVE University even if you’re not actively playing to complete your commitment period.
Training Squadron (“The Lambs”) Mission Statement
The Mission Statement of the Battlegroup 1 Training Squadron has been defined as follows:
It is the objective and first priority of the Battlegroup 1 Training Squadron (titled “The Lambs”) to train its members in excellence and potential leadership for player-versus-player encounters involving EVE University and the Ivy League Navy. We shall set it upon ourselves to ensure all Midshipmen within the training squadron shall meet specific requirements that meet the expected knowledge base of an Ensign and pilot within Battlegroup 1. We shall additionally provide supplemental training and information to Midshipmen of “The Lambs” to provide additional avenues of training that they may wish to seek further as their career in Battlegroup 1 progresses.
Curriculum Requirements
As members of the Battlegroup 1 training squadron, there are certain requirements that are to be met before becoming a fully fledged Black Sheep. These requirements have been set in place to establish the foundation for knowledge of fleet operations and PvP to build on and branch off of for the remainder of time that each recruit spends within Battlegroup 1 and the ILN.
Training Program Objectives
The following objectives are to be met by every member of the training squadron before consideration for promotion to the rank of Ensign within Battlegroup 1.
- Knowledge of the roles Electronic Warfare (E-WAR), Tackling, and Damage Dealing (DD) within standard fleet operations.
- Knowledge of basic fleet operation and/or experience in squad or fleet command.
- Minimum skill requirements under the Leadership Category as follows:
- Leadership III
- Armored Warfare II
- Information Warfare II
- Siege Warfare II
- Skirmish Warfare II
- Demonstration of effort in training towards or already showing proficiency in an essential fleet role (E-WAR, Tackle, DD, Scout).
- A minimum of one (1) month time service since enlistment into “The Lambs” training squadron.
Objective Tracking
To facilitate the tracking of recruits meeting the preceding objectives to provide expedient promotion opportunity, Battlegroup 1 management acknowledges that more events and classes should be offered to supply the demand for recruits.
Meeting the objective of demonstrating use and knowledge of the three basic fleet roles can be obtained either through class attendance or fleet events. Fleet events run by the training squadron management will automatically be recorded for each Lamb in the fleet.
A Fleets 101 class will be offered at least once every two weeks for the purpose of meeting this objective. However, sufficient experience in fleet commanding can easily account for knowledge of fleet operations.
To account for knowledge of the basic fleet roles, class attendance of EWAR 101, Tackle 101, and Gunnery 101 qualify for meeting knowledge requirements for EWAR, Tackle, and DD, respectively. Additionally, accounting for this knowledge may also be accomplished by referencing a recruit's killboard kill and loss listings.
To demonstrate proficiency in a particular fleet role, sufficient skill training into that role and its respective ships are to be accounted for. For Tackling, this is evidenced through Interceptors. For EWAR, this is evidenced through a Tech 2 fit EWAR Cruiser or Electronic Attack Frigate (EAF). For DD, this is evidenced through a Tech 2 fit Battlecruiser or preferably a Tech 2 fit Battleship. Completion of the Scouting for Scouts program also satisfies this objective. Note that one does not need to actually be able to fly a Tech 2 fit ship to be eligible for promotion from the Lambs, but only be able to demonstrate progression towards choosing a primary role. This can be accounted for by skill point totals or demonstration of role fulfillment and knowledge on kill mails.
Should a recruit not be able to immediately evidence proficiency in a fleet role due to insufficient skill points and lacks time remaining within the training squadron to attain the needed skill points, a detailed skill plan along with a documented fitting that requires the aforementioned skill plan and fulfills proficiency in a particular fleet role must be submitted to the Battlegroup 1 N-7 training officer for review towards completing this objective.
Progress is tracked by the Commanding Officers of the Battlegroup 1 Training Squadron.
Badge of Honor
To be recognized as a Black Sheep is truly something to be proud of, and we strongly encourage our pilots to show their pride by displaying our "Badge of Honor" in your EVE Univsersity forum signature. Upon completion of the Lambs Training Program, a newly promoted ensign will be honored with a BG1 Black Sheep forum signature. More information can be found here.
Failure to Meet Requirements
Recruits that fail to meet all of the aforementioned objectives and obtain the rank of Ensign within their first two months of enlistment into Battlegroup 1 shall be considered at an unacceptable level of progress and will be removed from the Ivy League Navy. The option of re-enlistment after removal shall be left to the discretion of the BG1 N-1 Personnel officer and Commanding Officer.
This new restriction applies to all recruits who swore in to the Battlegroup 1 beyond February 17, 2011 at 0000 EVE Time. All recruits who swore in before this date shall be given until April 17, 2011 at 2359 EVE Time to meet the expected objectives. Failure to meet required objectives before the given date will result in removal from the Ivy League Navy.
Ivy League Policies
Code of Conduct
An overview of the Code of Conduct is as follows.
- Our members are honest in their dealings both with one another and the community
- Our members treat pilots both inside and outside the organization with respect
- Our members keep all public communication channels free of inappropriate content
- Our members do not exploit or otherwise violate the EVE Online EULA
- Our members are free to make their own choices
- Our members are encouraged to balance “self” with “service”
All members of EVE University are bound by the ILN Code of Conduct. This is especially true for members of the ILN, as the military arm of EVE University. All questions and refreshers concerning details of the Code of Conduct should be answered by reviewing the official listing on the EVE University Wiki at Ivy League Policies.
Rules of Engagement
In low security space, EVE University and ILN operate on a “Not Red, Don’t Shoot” (NRDS) policy. This allows members to freely engage pilots in space that are war targets, outlaws, are hostile, or enemies of the alliance. Fire upon neutrals or pilots with standing of +5.0 or greater should only be conducted if that neutral fires upon you or your fleet first. Any act of aggression from these non-red parties should be reported to an E-UNI diplomat and/or director.
In null security space and wormhole space, EVE University and ILN operate on a "Not Blue, Shoot It" (NBSI) policy with some limitations - typically non-combat ships (Shuttles, Haulers, Barges etc) will not be engaged first if neutral, however other neutrals may still be engaged at the discretion of the Fleet Commander. Fleet Commanders should remain mindful of EVE University policy and limitations on access to NullSec.
Mixed fleet membership for PvP purposes is never allowed within EVE University. The only exception made to this rule is for Friends of the Alliance (+10.0 standing) joining in fleet to only attack Enemies of the Alliance (-10.0 standing).
All further references and clarifications for Rules of Engagement and other policies involving fleet operations and PvP should be checked on Ivy League Policies.
Terms of Service
Upon enlisting into the ILN, pilots agree to adhere to the Terms of Service, as stated by the EVE University wiki. By enlisting into the Navy, you agree to all of these terms. These should be taken seriously and not entered into lightly.
- The minimum term of enlistment is three (3) months. You are required to maintain employment with EVE University continuously for three (3) months. This means that unlike non-ILN students you cannot drop corporation for any reason until your obligation has been fulfilled. At the end of your enlistment you are free to stay or leave as you choose. For Battlegroup 1, the enlistment is four (4) months.
- You agree to obey all the orders and regulations of the Ivy League Navy. You agree to discuss such regulations and orders only in the proper manner in this thread.
- You agree to act in a professional manner. You will not make threats against other pilots or act against them except in the manner directed by higher command to enforce Ivy League Policy.
- You are joining the Navy to serve the Ivy League. The fleet is subordinate to the civilian leadership of the Uni, except during times of war. Your status as an ILN pilot means that you will hold a certain degree of authority over the general Uni militia. Always remember that your job is to protect your corporation mates, this does not give you the right to be arrogant or condescending toward others. Do not abuse your privileges. Any further detail can be viewed at Joining the ILN.
