Class Contents
Introduction
Welcome to this class on Heavy Assault Cruisers, otherwise known as HACs. You'll also note that in-game they are referred to as Heavy Asssault Ships, but the majority of players use the term Heavy Assault Cruisers (why is that, by the way?) so we will continue with that designation.
Over the 60 minutes or so, we shall cover the different HACs by race, how to fit them for PvP and PvE activity, and some general advice about how to fly HACs successfully.
(Instructor should then introduce himself or herself - covering relevant experience level and background.)
We have a few ground rules for this class:
- Please put your Mumble settings on "Push to Talk" if you have not already done so.
- Feel free to type any questions in the Class.E-UNI chat channel as we proceed - I will try to answer your questions as they come during the class. [At the end of my lecture, we'll open Mumble for any further questions or general discussion.]
- You should be docked up safely in a station
Everyone ready? OK, then - let's begin....
Intro to HAC ships
Heavy Assault Cruisers are high damage ships with high survivability. They enjoy the highest tier of racial resistances, giving them very powerful base tanks. Each race has two HACs based around the two core weapon systems of that race:
- Autocannons and artillery for Minmatar
- Missiles and rail-guns for Caldari
- Blasters and drones for Gallente
- Lasers and short-range missiles for Amarr
Flavour/offtopic: MISSILES FOR AMARR??: Initially CCP tried to make 'pulse' and 'beam' laser ships for the Amarr. Invariably people chose the 'pulse' ships and used scorch ammo for range, leaving the beam ships unused. In response to this CCP changed all the 'pulse' ships into Khanid missile ships and turned the beam ships into general laser ships
