Planetary Interaction Taskforce
From UniWiki
This page is for organizing the team responsible for putting together information on the Planetary Interaction feature included in the Tyrannis release. The guide went LIVE the day (before) Tyrannis launched, and got linked on the eveonline.com maintenance page!

Project goal
The goal of the Planetary Interaction (PI) taskforce is to get on Singularity, read devblogs and figure out all the details of Planetary Interaction before the release of Tyrannis. All information will be made public as the taskforce will deliver a comprehensive, correct and complete wiki guide on planetary interaction (including screenshots and videos if necessary).
Ideally this will not only give us an idea of how PI works, but also what the optimum and general strategies will be, how the production chains work, etc. In addition to the guide (or perhaps through the guide) I also want the taskforce to supply enough information on PI to allow us to teach classes on PI right away.
Deliverables
Must haves:
| ID/version | Product | Contents | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| P1 v0.5 | Planetary Interaction guide | Planetary Interaction guide 50% finished. Should contain complete guide structure (table of contents/chapter headings). Should define what information will go where. | May 8th, 2010 - done! |
| P1 v0.95 | Planetary Interaction guide | Planetary Interaction guide 95% finished. Should contain finished chapters, including screenshots. The last 5% should be cosmetic, typographic and numeral (see v1.0) changes only. | May 23th, 2010 - done! |
| P1 v1.0 | Planetary Interaction guide | Planetary Interaction guide 100% finished. Fully finished guide. All numbers have been verified to correspond to the Tranquility version of PI. | May 26th, 2010 |
Should haves:
| ID/version | Product | Contents | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| P2 | Planetary Interaction lesson plan | A lesson plan which defines how and in which order to explain PI to new pilots, with clarifying text where needed. | May 25th, 2010 |
| P3 | Planetary Interaction Video Guide | Short (5 minutes max) youtube video explaining the basics of PI. Intended to be a quick start guide, rather than a complete PI guide. | May 26th, 2010 - done! |

Page Status
Complete
These pages are essentially done, needing only slight maintenance for data accuracy and such
- Planetary Interaction - front page of guide (short more FAQ, Term, and Hint entries, can be added any time)
- Planetary Interaction Video Guide - video is producted!
- Planetary Commodities - big colorful tables with all commodities and the combinations you can use
- Planetary Buildings - stuff on buildings
- Planets - planet details
- Good Planets - comparison information on how to spot good planets in various security levels. Full completion is way out of scope for the guide, separate Abundance Project suggested
Under Construction
These pages are in progress
- Planetary Industry - thorough instructions on how to efficiently work the different concepts together on a single planet
- This page is in pretty good shape, might need some image presentation improvement. Very open ended topic, page could cover much more stuff.
- Colony Management - more fancy concepts involving running multiple colonies and keeping them supplied
- This page is in decent shape, but is also a very open ended topic, and it depends far more on post-launch evolution on what works best. Clear candidate for continued tending for a long time to come
- Planetary Interaction PvP - page on PvP tactics in PI, if there'll be enough content for it, seems unlikely. Interesting but peripheral topic
- Some initial structure has been added. Likely needs some time post-launch to really develop
- Planetary Interaction 101 - lesson plan
Resource Only
These pages are not part of the guide itself, but related none the less
- Planetary Resources - original resource page, maybe useful later with templates added like the Skills system. Replaced by Planetary Commodities as far as the guide goes.
- Planet Images - large images and small icons of planets
Unused Images
This section lists images that have been used in the guide but were later removed for various reasons - to save space, for instance. Leaving a reference here in case they are needed later or if not to remember to submit delete requests sometime.
- PI-UnalteredHeatMap.jpg - removed from front page as PI-AlteredHeatMap.jpg shows more and to save space
- PI-PlacingExtractorOnHotspot.jpg - removed from front page and parked here until it can be put on a better page
Todo List
Put anything here you can think of that should be done as part of this effort, but only the brief description of the task. Actual work should be put on other wiki pages. Anybody feel free to work on tasks listed here. Tag an item with your name if you're working on it or want to / are assigned to
High priority
- Make a series of Planetology + Advanced Planetology heat map screenshots showing how much of an effect comes from skilling up
- Make some P4 flowcharts showing involved commodities, planets, along-the-way alternative uses, etc. Use existing colors / icons from the guide
- Shiu is working on basic Industry flowcharts with Xion helping 0 sample: Media:PI_Flowchart-Broadcast_Node.jpg
- Very nice start! Bit of cleaning up, standardizing numbers + colors, one missing arrow, maybe add planet icons / images to the R0 tier?
- Crazy go nuts spreadsheet made by Soapy5: http://forum.eveuniversity.org/viewtopic.php?p=280493#p280493 - brings up the idea that we could have two tiers of diagrams / spreadsheets, with the more advanced having colony management elements to it
- Shiu is working on basic Industry flowcharts with Xion helping 0 sample: Media:PI_Flowchart-Broadcast_Node.jpg
- Wartime policies for PI.
- (Initial draft in Planetary_Interaction#Planetary_Interaction_During_War and suggested text in Discussion page for Wartime_Standard_Operating_Procedures - Shiu)
- Wiki proof-reading and happy linking - need some wiki gnomes to make more links, improve style, grammar, etc
- Benefit vs cost analysis of distant extractors placed at the highest concentration of a resource vs different extractor types close together in an area moderately abundant in multiple resources. Same for multiple extractors on top of each other vs only using a single / fewer per resource concentation
- Expand and organize Planetary Industry
-
Summary on the front page -
Improve routing example (add screenies) - Improve presentation of screenshots
-
- Add and answer more FAQ entries
- Explain more Terms
-
Add entry on Oceanic planet on general resource distribution trends (like existing sections for all other planets) - List the planet type rarity for each planet (how common is lava, temperate, plasma, etc)
- This may only be possible post-launch with a new Tranquility data dump?
-
Provide a nice summary on the Good Planets page before diving into the intense Lava data. Maybe separate overview information vs planet/sec status data - Expand and organize Colony Management
-
Sharpen up the red text on the Elite Barren Planet Mining Complex Colony screenie - Fill in "Player Cooperatives" with some examples of multiple players (or alts) working together
- Add in more sample colony screenshots and explanations
- Market interaction / speculative profit mongering needed!
-
Normal priority
- Organize and run PE cooperation tests - making the slices as big as you can (benefit of multiple players / alts on the same planet)
- (Newbie friendly): Make tables on system make-up of planets near Aldrat, two already done! More can wait till post-launch accuracy
- Can you work PI with a freighter? You can deploy a Command Center - Saja Khali testing other bits
- Commentary on the impact of planet size to the cost of links - reference: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/DawneXi/Planet_Radius_and_Links_Scaling.jpg
- An initial note is that long links become almost even in grid vs. cpu cost, leaving large planets with long links likely to have lots of spare CPU
- BP details for new stuff - the whole Starbase & Sovereignty Structures menu under Blueprints is brand new
- We have the BPOs listed - is there anything more we can do? List total R0 cost per BPO? Total planet need?
- Is there a drawback to always setting routes to transfer max? YES! After links were downgraded in capacity around May 11th you can suddenly overload them much more easily. Keeping a trickle going constantly may beat overloading links with single huge chunks
- This was noted right after link capacity was substantially lowered - is it still valid after further adjustments, extractor cycle timing changes, and data reset on SiSi?
- Simple experiment: Identify two white hotspots for any resource, place one extractor in the center of each. Let the extractors work one deposit, noting the per cycle and total amount harvested. Now place a second extractor right next to one of them (extracting the same resource), repeat the experiment, and compare the dual-extractor output vs the single-extractor output (checking to see if the number went down overall even for the single-extractor)
- Organize screenies of structures from multiple players on the same screen (The Fatha posted some on page six of the first forum thread)
-
Alpha-sort by planet name the various tables on the Planet page (if not already sorted). Exception: Shattered should always go on the bottom, regardless. -
Alpha sort P1 table on Planetary Commodities page as per result instead of R0 component - Find a way to remove some of the pointless padding on the various tables, like by the planet icons on Planetary Commodities or the extra heading space for Planet#Resource_Distribution_by_Planet_Type (some horizontal padding removed, verify if enough)
-
Verify and document details somewhere on how Sovereignty affects the construction of colonies.- If another alliance actively holds Sov you cannot deploy CCs
- You can deploy CCs in unclaimed nullsec just fine, but what happens then if somebody else claims Sov?
- What happens if you're in an alliance, own a system, have CCs there, but then lose sov to neutral or another alliance?
- You CAN deploy CCs in NPC nullsec!
- Somewhat related and another note to edit in somewhere: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Talk:Planetary_Interaction
Post-launch todo
These todos will verify accuracy of our data after Tyrannis is officially launched
-
Verify the Aldrat-near constellation table (tables removed) (plasma examples updated.) -
Flag the planet metrics as likely inaccurate, maybe somehow get new data sometime -
Review the building stats (cpu/powergrid verified and cost for building verified.) - Review material m3 count of all tiers
- Adjust / verify the import/export costs in CCs and Launchpads
- Review schematic and BP recipes
- When all has been verified, export v1.0 plus supporting diagrams into a one-size-fits-all PDF for download (but note that the wiki will continue to be updated and the PDF only periodically updated)
Post-launch projects
- Abundance Project - expand on Shiu Juan's work on the Good Planets page to get actual mathematical averages worked out across the different planet types + sec levels, including deep nullsec and WHes. Can submit data "anonymously" via nameless planet screenshots to not give up business secrets if desired
