This guide will point out some best practices to set up your UI(User Interface) / Screen Layout. It is by no means a definitive steps by step guide but rather to introduce some concepts that I found to be useful and optimise the way you fly in EVE.

Introduction
From research into this topic I have found that there are a few key factors that determine how one's layout is set up.
Firstly its screen real estate, this is how much space you have to work with and is usually tied into the size of your monitor and your resolution. Secondly, what are you into ? Is it PVP, Scouting and exploration, fleet ops, mission running, mining etc. Your core activities greatly influence what you need on screen to be effective in your activities or role.
Lastly, your personal style. Some people are comfortable having all their core combat UI's on the bottom right and others on the top right. Some people rarely pay attention to some parts of their layout and as such placing critical functions there may hamper your ability to be effective. So finding your personal style and tweaking your UI to suit is the key to be successful.
Key User Interface Elements
Before You Begin
Backing up your UI settings (along with your bookmark and contacts organization) is critical to a good play experience with EVE Online. A Client Preferences and Settings Backup should be accomplished after any major change to your UI.
