This chapter contains the standard information of this class pertaining to scheduling and class contents. The General Information should be sufficient to create a proper class topic for scheduling on the Eve University forum. This class will describe some of the more advanced aspects of trading, and how to maximize your profits from them. If you interested in earning more ISK in EVE, then this class is for you.

Class Contents

Introduction

Welcome to this class on Advanced Trading! This course is designed primarily for anyone that wants to make more ISK.

Over the 60 minutes or so, we shall explore some of the more subtle aspects of trading, and how to maximize your profits from trading activity.

(Instructor should then introduce himself or herself - covering relevant experience level and background.)

We have a few ground rules for this class:

  • Please put your Mumble settings on "Push to Talk" if you have not already done so.
  • Feel free to type any questions in the Class.E-UNI chat channel as we proceed - I will try to answer your questions as they come during the class. [At the end of my lecture, we'll open Mumble for any further questions or general discussion.]
  • You should be docked up safely in a station.

Everyone ready? OK, then - let's begin....

Trading Skills

  • Basic Trading Skills
    • Order quantity skills (Level Trained depends on how many you are comfortable managing)
      • Trade - Increases orders by 4/Base trade skill
      • Retail - Increases orders by 8
      • Wholesale- Increases orders by 16
      • Tycoon - Increases orders by 32/ all maxed out at approx. 300
    • Range management skills
      • Marketing - Set remote sell orders
      • Procurement - Set remote buy orders
      • Daytrading - Modify orders remotely
      • Visibility - Set order range remotely
  • Advanced Skills
    • Fee management Skills (Only Skills that should absolutely be trained to lvl 5)
      • Broker Relations - Reduces broker fee 5% per lvl, reducing from 1% to 0.75% at lvl 5
      • Accounting - Reduces tax by 10% per lvl, reducing from 1% to 0.5% at lvl 5
    • Margin Trading - Reduces the amount need to place in escrow for a buy order by 25% per lvl
    • Contracting - Increases the number of manageable contracts, increasing by 4 per lvl for a max of 21

Player Careers that Affect Trading

These EVE career types usually have low/no trade skills due to their focus. As a result, they must adjust how they conduct trading operations.

  • Missioners
    • Low item volume usually makes it more practical to sell at mission hub
    • ISK comes from fast mission turn around, so it is usually more practical to buy items at hub
  • PvPers
    • Focus is on combat skills
    • Many find trading boring
  • Pirates
    • Same issues as PvPer, but low sec status restricts access to high sec hubs
    • Manufacture some items such as ammo, creating a need for mins
  • Industrialists
    • Some don't have understanding of market mechanics/dynamics
    • These either fill our buy orders or screw up buy/sell spread

Station Trading v. Haul Trading

  • Types of Haul Trading
    • Market hub to mission hub
      • Move items both ways
    • Region to region trading
      • Having an alt in the region helps
    • Hi to low sec/0.0 trading
      • Use remote trade skills and contracting to avoid going into these areas
      • Use remote trade skills to station trade in these areas without entering
      • Use remote trade skills and basic station trading principles to capitalize on the pirate's lack of access to market hubs

Finding Trade Items

  • Sell what you know
    • What items do you use
  • Run Missions
    • Loot wrecks and see what drops then see how it sells
  • Research the market window
    • Go through the market top to bottom
  • PRICE_CHECK Channel
    • See what other are selling
    • Helps with regional price checks
  • Check forums for fits
    • Check places such as Scrapheap Challenge
    • Google killboards
    • Look at fits linked by senior members in e-uni chat channels

Type of Sales

  • Buy order/sell order
    • Traditional buy low / sell high
  • Buy order to buy order
    • Place buy orders in one location and haul to another with higher buy orders
    • Be careful not to let the other order fill and get caught with product you can't move
  • Buy to refine
    • Buy loot items that have no value in your region for very cheap
    • Refine for more in ore than you can reasonably get for sell order
    • Racial ammo and weapons are good examples
  • NPC seed items
    • Buy at seed location and haul to trade hub
    • Region specific items
  • Region wide buy orders
    • Have two orders, one low for region wide and one for normal trading
      • Pirates who don't have access to good buy orders will fill the low ones
    • Low sec/0.0 orders can be resold remotely at same station for mark up
    • Any items that can't or won't sell can be reprocessed
      • Keep the buy price low enough that you won't lose money on reprocess
      • Keep minimum quantity high enough to make it worth while
        • Worst case, you can resell to other region wide buy order for minimal loss

Contracts

  • Using contracts for intended purposes other than scamming
  • Courier contracts
  • Auction/Item Exchange contracts

Alternate Revenue Streams

  • Production
    • Produce cheaper than buy order
    • Use for items you can't fill buy orders fast enough
  • Research
  • Datacore farming
