Engineering Complexes are a new type of structure introduced during the Ascension expansion (Nov 2016). These structures, and the service modules that came with them, are intended to replace research and manufacturing functionality currently available in Outposts and Starbases.

Size variants

There are currently three different sizes of Engineering Complexes; the medium Raitaru, the large Azbel and the extra-large Sotiyo.

Difference in Engineering Complexes

Raitaru
Medium complex, only allows subcapital docking. Grants bonuses to manufacturing and research. Can only construct subcapital ships. No fighters. 9 vulnerable hours per week.
Azbel
Large complex, same docking restrictions as Raitaru. Grants larger bonuses to manufacturing and research. Can be fitted to construct capital ships (carriers, FAXes, and dreads), but these cannot dock once launched. 3 fighter launch tubes. 18 vulnerable hours per week.
Sotiyo
Extra-Large complex, allows docking of capital ships. Grants even larger bonuses to manufacturing and research. Can be fitted to construct supercapital ships (titans and supercarriers), but these cannot dock once launched (as of August 2017 these are the ONLY locations where supercapitals can be built). 5 fighter launch tubes. 36 vulnerable hours per week.

Anchoring an Engineering Complex

Main article: Anchoring structures

In order to anchor an Engineering Complex you'll need a ship with an appropriately sized cargo hold or fleet hangar, the right roles and a suitable spot to anchor your structure. After that the whole building process, while automatic, takes 24 hours.
