Modules you might find useful
Armour
Active
Repair any damage taken with one or more activated repair modules
  • You can repair damage
  • Effective in duels or missions
  • Dependant on capacitor to power active modules
  • More buttons to press
  • Armor repair systems (active)
  • Armor hardeners (active)
  • Energized & resistance plating (passive)
  • Possible rigs: auxiliary nano pump, nanobot accelerator

Buffer
Have as many effective hitpoints as possible so you survive as long as possible
  • PvP: keeps you alive longest versus lots of enemies
  • Fewer buttons to press
  • Armour plates make you less agile & slower
  • Armour does not regenerate
  • Armor plates (passive)
  • Armor hardeners (active)
  • Energized & resistance plating (passive)
  • Possible rig: trimark armor pump
Shield
Active
Repair any damage taken with one or more activated repair modules
  • You can repair damage
  • Effective in duels or missions
  • Dependant on capacitor to power active modules
  • More buttons to press
  • Shield boosters (active)
  • Shield boost amplifiers (passive)
  • Shield hardeners (active)
  • Shield resistance amplifiers (passive)
  • Possible rigs: core defence operational solidifier, core defence capacitor safeguard

Buffer
Have as many effective hitpoints as possible so you survive as long as possible
  • PvP: keeps you alive longest versus lots of enemies
  • Fewer buttons to press
  • Shield naturally regenerates...
  • Larger signature radius (making enemies target you faster and hit you easier)
  • Shield naturally regenerates... very slowly
  • Shield extenders (passive)
  • Shield hardeners (active)
  • Shield resistance amplifiers (passive)
  • Possible rig: core defence field extender

Passive
Maximise the natural recharge rate of your shields so that they self-repair any damage taken
  • Regenerates naturally fast
  • Effective in missions
  • Fewer actual hit points
  • Not many ships can do it very well
  • Shield power relays (passive)
  • Shield extenders (passive)
  • Shield hardeners (active)
  • Shield resistance plating (passive)
  • Possible rig: core defence field purger
Speed

Travel fast enough that the enemy guns can't track you and their missiles do much less damage
  • Fast & agile
  • Can dictate range
  • Lots of inherent GTFO ability
  • Effective in missions & PvP
  • Fragile if/when you are actually hit by something
  • Dependant on not being webbed or scrammed by the enemy
  • Not many ships can do it very well
  • Afterburner or microwarpdrive (active)
  • Overdrive injector systems (passive)
  • Nanofiber internal structure (passive)
  • Possible rigs: auxiliary thrusters, low friction nozzle joints, polycarbon engine housing
