Intro

Outer Ring Excavations, or ORE, is the largest independent mining corporation around. ORE was originally a fledgling Gallentean company, but struck gold when they found extremely rich Nocxium asteroid belts in the Outer Ring region. When the Gallente Federation tried to force ORE to reveal the location of the asteroid fields the company left Gallentean space and set up base in the Outer Ring region. They used their massive wealth to buy protection for their bases and keep their operation secret. Several pirate factions have tried to muscle in on the ORE territories, but with little success.

Practically, ORE is a NPC Corporation that mainly has bases in 0.0 systems. They have a number of bases and agents that give missions; as they're a specialized corporation they also have some Loyalty Point rewards that are of special interest to miners.

Locations

ORE operates mainly in the Outer Ring and Cloud Ring regions, where they have mining installations scattered around in hidden locations, grinding out the most valuable minerals on the market.

History

Founded in YC 91 by Yani Sar Arteu and Orion Mashel, ORE's first five years were tough, as the company found it difficult to stand out among the many corporations in the area and many of the larger mining companies stonewalled any challengers to their dominance. ORE frequently found its bids undercut and customers taken by larger firms.

However, in YC 96, a massive Obsidian Ochre asteroid containing a huge amount of nocxium was discovered by ORE. The asteroid was reportedly the largest single deposit of nocxium to ever be found in New Eden, with some reports stating the size was closer the size of a dwarf planet. The Gallente Federation deemed the asteroid too much for the small company to handle and tried to buy out the location of the asteroid from ORE. However, Yani refused to give the location and thus moved all of ORE operations in Federation space in the Outer Ring region. The wealth of asteroid turned the company into a minor faction which laid claim to the entire Outer Ring region.

In YC 103, Yani Sar Arteu step down as CEO of ORE allowing Orion Mashel to become CEO. For many years Mordu's Legion provided security for ORE and their assets, in YC 106 Orion Mashel required a meeting with Muryia Mordu, the CEO of Mordu's Legion. After the meeting, Muryia appeared clearly upset and later led an operation in Serpentis space.

Relations between the ORE and Mordu's Legion soured until, finally, in YC 107 Mordu's Legion left the region. In YC 108, the entire corporation was taken in a hostile takeover by Serpentis, led by Admiral Brion of the Serpentis First Expeditionary Fleet, which was met by resistance by ORE employees but ORE has no protection against the fleet from Serpentis. They have been reports of massacres and murder by Serpentis forces, however there was no response by CONCORD. Today, Serpentis now oversees all aspects of ORE's operations.

The Elder War and the Second Gallente-Caldari War had no direct effect on ORE, though the corporation did make money from the empires that required their resources. They were more concerned about the problems closer to home than in empire space.

File:Nocxium.jpg Nocxium is one of the most sought-after materials around, as it’s one of the vital ingredients for capsule production. Due to the fact that this strange matter forms only during supernovas, it can only be found in a few exclusive regions. As the nocxium breaks down when under intense heat and pressure, it only exists in asteroid fields and not in larger stellar objects. A few years ago numerous asteroids containing nocxium were discovered in the extensive Miennue cloud ring just outside the jurisdiction of the Gallente Federation, propelling the otherwise desolate cloud ring into the international political limelight.

Thousands of prospectors have flocked to Miennue since nocxium was first discovered there, but as always only a handful reap the rewards of their efforts. Yani Sar Arteu was one of the few to hit the jackpot big time. He and his small company named Outer Ring Excavations recently stumbled across an asteroid reportedly containing the biggest nocxium deposit ever found in this region. Although rumors abound nothing has been confirmed, as only Arteu and his companions have seen this alleged super-asteroid and are not about to disclose its location. In fact, they only spend the minority of their time actually mining the asteroid, hunting it down on weekly excavation expeditions. This is because they don’t want to flood the market with nocxium, thus bringing down the price. In between, they spend their energy playing elaborate games of hide-and-seek with jealous competitors eager to get their hands on the asteroid.

The empires monitor the goings-on in Miennue constellation closely and all of them have made both overt and covert proposals to Outer Ring Excavations, offering security for a stake in the company. Outer Ring Excavations have rejected all these offers, but ever-increasing pressure from competitors is making it harder and harder for them to keep their secret safe much longer. Sooner or later, one of the numerous methods employed by those pursuing the asteroid -- bribes, threats, tracking devices, bugs -- is bound to unveil the secret that Arteu has so meticulously kept concealed. In the meantime, Arteu and Outer Ring Excavations are getting richer -- fantastically so -- by the minute.
