== Setting a Command Channel push-to-talk
==
== Setting a sub channel push-to-talk button
==

Our fleet channels can be found in the Ivy League Navy part of the Mumble server, containing 10 separate fleet channels, from Alpha to Juliet. These fleet channels contain two sub-channels, the main fleet channel named (e.g.) ''Delta ''and a sub-channel named ''Command.'' As you probably already realised, if you are in a command position you should join the Command sub-channel, whilst normal fleet members should join the parent channel. You are in a command position when you are the FC, a scout or invited to the command channel by the FC. Being an SC/WC does not entitle you to join the command channel unless you are invited. It is at his discretion who to have on the command channel. The FC should invite those WC/SC that do perform tasks that require being on command channel (e.g. if the FC splits the fleet and have certain units perform tasks out of his range of influence).
Some of our mumble rooms, most notably the fleet and campus channels have sub channels like ''command, logistics'' or ''ewar''. The purpose of these sub channels is to give the group within the option to talk to each other without the rest of the fleet being able to hear it. For example the commander of the logistics group can now talk to only the Logistic pilots without confusing everyone else.

The two channels are linked, which means the normal PTT talks to both. Therefore fleet members do not need any special PTT key, your normal PTT you set up during Mumble installation talks to everyone in the fleet. If you are in Command, you will need another PTT key that talks only to the current channel, in order to talk in Command. To set that up, go to Configure -> Settings -> Shortcuts, which will pop up a window that looks like this:
You don't need to do anything to just listen to a sub channel but joining it. Your regular push to talk button will still let you talk to the whole fleet/campus you are in, the sub channels are "linked" to the whole channel. To be able to talk to the sub channel you are in right now, you need to set a second PTT key. To set that up, go to Configure -> Settings -> Shortcuts, which will pop up a window that looks like this:
Whilst in the Combat Lounge you can use your Command chat push-to-talk key to talk to ''only ''the Combat Lounge in order to announce upcoming fleets, or asking confidential questions concerning fleets or current wars. This should not be used for general chatting, and should only be used for fleet announcements or confidential war/fleet questions. Use of the command chat key in this case should be kept short and clear, as those in the Public Lounge are liable to talk over you.
=== Global Command
===

Normal fleet grunts, squad commanders, scouts, and, usually, wing commanders, will ''not'' need a Global Command key and can safely not bother setting one up. For fleet commanders it can be useful to co-ordinate movements between multiple fleets. It allows you to talk to every fleet Command channel on the Mumble server.
=== Tokens ===

#Go back into the Shortcuts settings window.
Another option with mumble is to set up so called tokens to be able to only talk to specific people. You find a detailed description with the example for ewar pilots here [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lmulCWzEalVg3P53OonshWNhEx28CZZgpTWM56NE_l4/edit?hl=en&authkey=CJik4e4I&pli=1 here] (thanks to Remric for that).
#Create a new Whisper/Shout shortcut.
#In the Whisper Target window, select Shout to Channel, and highlight the Ivy League Navy > Alpha > Command channel. Make sure all the other tickboxes are clear.
#Choose your desired Global Command shortcut.
#Repeat steps 2 to 4 nine more times, each time selecting a new Command channel (i.e. Bravo > Command, Charlie > Command, etc. up to Juliet > Command) and each time choosing the same shortcut. Eventually your Shortcuts window should look like this:
[[Image:Command shortcuts.png]]

#Do NOT test your new shortcut whilst there are fleets out.

Talking on Global Command should be prefaced with "Global Command, this is <name>..." and should only be used if really required. Don't use it for asking how the fleet is feeling today.
=== EWAR and other push-to-talk keys ===

Mumble allows you to set up many different keybinds (using the same process as explained above) for many different whisper types: to groups of channels, or specific channels, or to people who have a specific 'acess token' set up in their Mumble settings. If you regularly fly EWAR ships in E-UNI fleets, you may want to set up an EWAR token in this way, which is described in detail by Remric [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lmulCWzEalVg3P53OonshWNhEx28CZZgpTWM56NE_l4/edit?hl=en&authkey=CJik4e4I&pli=1 here].

You can also set up keybinds to talk to groups of people, or to single specific people regardless of what channel they are in (we call this one a 'push-to-stalk' key).
