UniWiki:Projects
From EVE University Wiki
UniWiki projects are substantial changes to UniWiki that require expert knowledge, weeks or months of work to complete or are worked on by more than one editor. Any capsuleer can take on a UniWiki project. Members of the Wiki Department propose new UniWiki projects by filling out the {{Wiki project}} template.
When you take up a project fill out the editor parameter preferably by using [[User:<username>|<username>]] creating a link to your userpage, update the status to In progress and move the project from the "To Do" section to the "In progress" section. Likewise when you complete a project change the status to Done and move it to the "Completed" section.

Main Page redesign
- Problem
- The UniWiki's Main Page has not kept up with EVE Online updates and UniWiki's technical improvements which makes finding EVE Online knowledge needlessly harder
- Description
- When ex-CEO User:Laura Karpinski designed the previous Main Page, she decided that it should put the Wiki and EVE Online knowledge before any reference to EVE University. Ex-Wiki Manager User:Rayanth decided that the new Main Page will be similar to the in-game The Agency. Wiki Manager User:Arin Mara decided that previous design decisions will be honored and that the Main Page should contain links that are nested, grouped and written as they are in the The Agency window, but that the Main Page should look like a Wiki Portal.

Border Rare Asteroids

- The Wiki currently has no record about the rare ore anomalies that spawn very pricey and rare ore like Yittrium (border/A0 asteroids)

- Create Wiki Pages (if required), construct a Navigational Template or add the anomalies to an existing one, write explanatory text and integrate the discoveries about these asteroids into the larger corpus of knowledge about asteroids and mining.

- The anomalies are not very big. I have mined an entire anomaly on my own and gotten about 130 million ISK.
- If you use crystals, you will need Simple, Complex, Coherent, and Variegated types.
- I have also seen some anomalies spawn with much fewer rocks (not sure about the game mechanics behind that).
- They show up on the overview and agency - no scanning required
- They can also spawn randomly during the day - not just after downtime.
- Mining#Cosmic_Anomalies has been updated. The following questions seem to remain:
- is it true that border anomalies do not appear in lowsec?
- what is the name of the A0 anomalies in WH?
- how often do they spawn?
- is there any sizeable difference in volume of contents between different types? (like, more ore in null than highsec?)
- should we mention that there is evidence that a border system with A0 enjoys x2 spawns?

Homefront Operations Guides and Knowledge
- Problem
- There are of Threads on the Forum about Homefront Operations: First Insights, Dread Assault and General Guide and Feedback. They will be archived or deleted from the Forum automatically after a year. In addition, the guide could reach a lot more readers if published on the Wiki.
- Description
- Create a Wiki page and transfer the information to the Wiki. Use Wiki native tools and syntax to enhance the knowledge. Integrate the information within into adjacent pages.

To Do
Wiki Talk Page Discord Bot
- Problem
- Edits on Talk Pages need to be check though the Special:RecentChanges interface. Important discussions can cool down and editors may start to believe Talk Pages are unused if updates are not caught in time.

- Talk with the Director of Information Services or the CEO about permission to use and deploy the bot. Develop a Discord bot that would track Recent Changes on Talk Pages (perhaps through the Wiki's publicly accessible API) and post a message in the EVE University Discord #wiki channel.

Re-implement Template:ShipsMatrix
- Problem
- Template:ShipsMatrix is a complex Navigational Template that is made up of nested links aligned vertically and horizontally

- Use Template:Navbox and Template:Flatlist to construct a navbox that will replace the existing Ship Matrix. If you need to modify Template:Navbox or Template:Flatlist to achieve this be careful not to effect other Templates in Category:Navigational templates.

Re-implement Templates: Combat Anomalies and DED Complexes
- Problem
- Template:Combat Anomalies and Template:DED Complexes are Navigational Templates made up of nested links aligned vertically and horizontally
- Description
- Use Template:Navbox and Template:Flatlist to construct a navboxes that will replace the existing Templates. Be sure to document the Templates as well. If you need to modify Template:Navbox or Template:Flatlist to achieve this be careful not to effect other Templates in Category:Navigational templates.

Re-imagine Basic Ship and Skill Overview
- Problem
- Template:ShipGuideBoilerintro and Template:ShipGuideLinks place lists, paragraphs of text and navigational rectangle, all in one template, which makes maintaining these these Templates and Pages difficult difficult
- Description
- Extract the navigational rectangle from Template:ShipGuideBoilerintro and Template:ShipGuideLinks and create a Navigational Template using Template:Navbox and Template:Flatlist.
Extract the bullet points in Template:ShipGuideLinks and place them on the "XXX Basic Ship and Skill Overview" Pages, such as Gallente Basic Ship and Skill Overview, or fold the bullet points to a previously created Navigational Template.
Extract the paragraphs from Template:ShipGuideBoilerintro and place them on the "XXX Basic Ship and Skill Overview" Pages, such as Gallente Basic Ship and Skill Overview.
Or if you come up with a better idea, do that, the point is to clean up Templates and Pages, to make sure a Template doesn't do too much.

- Mission pages have no less than five separate navigational templates which confuse editors and readers alike due to how similar they are. Some are placed at the top, but they should be placed on the bottom of the page.

- Use Template:Navbox to construct a navbox that merges and replaces Template:MissionLinks, Template:AnomicMissionNav, Template:EpicMissionArcBoilerintro, Template:Missionrelated and Template:ThePloyNav. After constructing it, include it at the bottom of all pages that the template links to.

- There is a very large number of agent and COSMOS mission pages that are either orphaned or dead-end pages, making UniWIki navigation difficult.
- Description
- Use Template:Navbox to construct a navbox that links to COSMOS agents/missions. Because there are hundreds of COSMOS agents, it is likely that the template will include a large number of links. After constructing it, include it at the bottom of all pages that the template links to.

Rewrite UniWiki SKIN
- Problem
- The current UniWiki SKIN 1.1 is incompatible with the MediaWiki software 1.39.x which prevents the UniWiki from receiving performance and security upgrades
- Description
- UniWiki SKIN 1.1 needs to be migrated from SkinTemplate based skins to SkinMustache. User:Rayanth did this once before and received the Medal of Outstanding Service from the CEO of EVE University User:Laura Karpinski. This is an ambition project that requires an ample amount of perseverance and expertise. Contact the Wiki Manager for access to the UniWiki SKIN 1.1 files.

Resuscitate EVE University's Epic Arc
- Problem
- The Explorer's Shadow is an Epic Arc created by EVE University members for EVE University members. It is woefully out of date.
- Description
- Reconstruct the Epic Arc. Propose how big it should be, what needs to be changed, coordinate with other editors, propose additional templates, ... This is an ambition project that requires an ample amount of perseverance.
- Who is the Explorer's Shadow aimed at?
- Who, if any, will track capsuleer progress through the Explorer's Shadow?
- How and where does it fit into the Wiki?
- Create a Navigational Template akin to what other Epic Arcs use for navigation.
- Template the common formatting elements across the Explorer's Shadow pages. Consider making a full page Template.
- Consider how to minimize the impact of future game or EVE University changes on the Explorer's Shadow.

- Investigate references provided by User:Sara Seraph: How to Run a Blood Raiders Sotiyo and Yeet Your Molok and Chemosh BPCs, an AAR How-To Hybrid, Blood Raider Sotiyo on zkillboard, EVE North 2019: A huge battle once broke out in EVE Online, but not a single player was involved and then construct the page. Import Sidebar with (collapsible) lists

- Sometimes a Sidebar Navigational Template is more appropriate and convenient than a Template:Navbox, but currently the Wiki has no meta-template to standardize Sidebars

- Import the Sidebar with collapsible lists / Sidebar and its adjacent Templates and write documentation that explains how to use it in a style similar to that of a Template:Navbox or Template:Infobox. Although Wikipedia uses Lua it might be possible to implement the Template with CSS and HTML, just like Template:Infobox and Template:Navbox.

- Problem
- EVE University 2.0. will replace the concept of a campus with a concept of a community. EVE University policy and rules pages are spread out and well interlinked. It is unclear which EVE University department is responsible for maintaining which service or protected page. There is no unified navigational template that shows the width and breath of EVE University services and programs.
- Description
- Use Template:Navbox to construct a navbox that merges and replaces Template:HR Navbar, Template:Campus Group Navbar and Template:FCC Links, links to pages in Category:EVE University and Special:ProtectedPages related to EVE University as an EVE Online corporation. Because there are about a hundred protected pages, it is likely that the template will include about eighty or more links. After constructing it, include it at the bottom of all pages that the template links to.
I cannot overstate the benefits of this project: it allows every capsuleer to inspect what each department and directorate does, it shows which department is responsible for maintaining a page, it lists all the services, policies and rules, centralized template maintenance, promotes EVE University as an EVE Online corporation and encourages good template documentation, proper page categorization and Wiki collaboration. With plenty of examples, each department manager will be able to add more pages to the template as well as reorder them based on their importance, all on a single Wiki page.

Perfect Refiner Template
- Problem
- Perfect Refine List is a list of volunteers with excellent skills who refine ores. Because there is no template each refiner/user formatted their skills, availability, cost and last update date according to their ability making it difficult for readers to parse information.
- Description
- Examine the Perfect Refine List and propose a new template that perfect refiners could use to describe who they are, how much their services cost, when it was the last time they updated their skill list, what implants they have, their contact information and what ever else you think perfect refiners would like.

Cleanup Infobox Templates
- Problem
- Category:Infobox templates are copy-pasted, use custom CSS which means every Infobox looks different, are difficult to learn as each author had a different vision of what an Infobox should be and are hard to maintain.
- Description
- Use the Template:Infobox to re-template each template in Category:Infobox templates. Template:Infobox will disentangle CSS from data improving readability, will make sure all Infobox have a consistent look and feel, will make learning what the Infobox does easier which increases accessibility and paves the way for automatic/dynamic list/spreadsheet generation.
There are only two requirements: put data into them and make them stack (like on Classes). Stacking means that different height Infoboxes in two rows should align to the tallest Infobox and rows of Infoboxes should be centered. Everything else, all the CSS/support templates/HTML markup/syntax can be changed to support that. Add, delete, replace whatever you need to achieve these two goals. Having all Infoboxes colored differently is a nice to have.

- Description
- Use Template:Navbox to construct a navbox that connects Category:Wormhole sites, similar to how Template:Combat Anomalies links Combat Anomalies. After constructing it, include it at the bottom of all pages that the template links to.

Template (EVE University) Events
- Problem
- Events Department used Events Template page as a template for their Events. That means each event page had to be created by copy-pasting the format and contents rather than being created by an actual template, making maintenance difficult.
- Description
- Use the new Template:EVEUniEvent to re-template each event in Events. If the Event doesn't conform to the Template, consider changing the Template code. If the Template doesn't conform to the Event, consider changing the Event description. Make changes to the Template, its documentation and Event Pages that will make hosting Events pleasurable and accessible.
