UniWiki:Mission formatting guidelines

From EVE University Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

This article lays out how mission reports should be formatted for the wiki. Example mission details are given in wiki markup, and then repeated as they would appear on a completed mission article.

Housekeeping

Start the page by adding the navigational templates {{MissionLinks}}, a box with mission related links at the top right of the page, and {{Missionrelated}}, for a footer with mission-related links.

When headings are used, add the magic word __NOTOC__ to suppress the table of contents. Add the applicable category or categories (See the subcategories of Category:Missions). If the article has NPC tables then add the template {{NPCTableCSS}} to make the CSS for the NPC table(s) available.

{{MissionLinks}} __NOTOC__ {{NPCTableCSS}} {{Missionrelated}} [[Category:Security missions]]

Adding the contents

Start by adding the template {{Missiondetails}} for a quick overview of the mission. The Missiondetails template can have quite a few parameters, and unused ones might be removed.

What to fill in:

Level
- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. If the mission is storyline, add that here. The agent level is the mission level, except for storyline[1] missions
Storyline
yes if the mission is a storyline mission e.g. the "extra" mission offered for completing 16 missions of the same level for the same faction. Leave out if not.
Type
- courier, encounter, mining, trade, etc. The mission type can be found in the mission journal.

With the Viridian expansion the mission journal was removed from the Neocom and the short-cut settings. Its keyboard short-cut was assigned to the newly introduced opportunities window.

However, for the time being as of 7 September 2024, the mission journal can still be called using the slash command /open journal in any of the chat windows.

Objective
- kill everything, retrieve X, do a thing etc. Can be found on the right side of the agent dialog window.
Faction(1,2,3,4)
- name of the enemy faction. This will also auto-fill the damage-to-deal and damage-to-resist fields.
DamageToDeal/Resist(1,2,3,4)
- only needed if it is different from the enemy faction's normal damage.
WebPoint
- Things that tackle you (Warp disruption/scram).
EWAR
- Types of EWAR present in the mission.
Ship suggestion
- Only fill this in if there is a special reason to use suggested ships instead of a normal mission-running ship.
Ship size limit
- Only fill if mission has special limits (normal missions allow all subcapital ships).
Rewards
- Only fill if mission has special rewards. Normal ISK and LP payouts are not constant and change over time.
StandingLoss
- Only use if a significant standing loss is incurred.
Extra
- Fill if there is something extra noteworthy. For example, a mission requiring a salvager, a mission with time limits, or unusual dangers.

The template also has more rarely-used fields that can be used when needed. See the template documentation for details on them.

Next use the template {{MissionBriefing|Text}} to add the mission briefing: the text on the left of the dialog window with the agent. If the text includes the character name replace it with <Pilot>. Likewise, as most missions will be issued by agents all over New Eden replace, the station name with <Station> and a solar system name with <System> etc. Do not do this with unique missions such as the Epic arcs.

Mission briefing
It has come to my attention that one of our employee's daughters has gone missing. She was last spotted in a disreputable nightclub in Weraroix, and we're afraid she's been forced into slave labor, or even prostitution. We request that you find her immediately and bring her safe and sound back to her family. I will give you the coordinates of this nightclub, I believe it is inside a pleasure complex, and I expect you to take care of the rest. Good luck.

Add links to possible video walkthroughs. Add the date, to give the reader the option to evaluate the relevance of the video in the light of more recent game updates.

Give description of the mission, mission objectives, noteworthy details and so on. For single pocket missions, most of the info will go here.

Single ungated pocket. Your objective is to destroy Kruul's Pleasure Garden and rescue the damsel. The damsel is in the hub that is further away from the warp-in. Note that the garden will deal 3000 damage to all ships and drones when it blows up. You should recall your drones before dealing the finishing blow to it.

Give blitzing info, notes, and warnings. Be brief here: you can give longer descriptions either in the section above or in the sections below.

Warning: Destruction of the garden results in 3000 Explosive damage in a 30-40 Km radius

If the mission has multiple pockets, put each of them in its own section using headings: === Warp-in ===, === 1st pocket ===, === 2nd pocket ===...

Heading level 3 is used because some missions are transcluded into other articles. To keep formatting the same for all missions.

The "Warp-in" section may be left out if there is nothing of note. Each section should start with a short block of text that tells readers what to do. The text can be as simple as "kill all to unlock gate".

After the text, there is a possible structure table, followed by NPC tables. Usually this will mean a single wave per table. Include text if there is anything noteworthy such as managing spawns, optional spawns, dangerous spawns, proximity triggers, or timed triggers.

Use {{NPCTableHead}} and {{NPCTableRow}} to construct the tables.

>>> '''Blitz:''' Destroy the farthest Kruul's Pleasure Garden, grab the damsel, return to agent. '''Warning:''' Destruction of the garden results in 3000 Explosive damage in a 30-40 Km radius {{NPCTableHead|Structures}} {{NPCTableRow|Station|1|Kruul's Pleasure Garden (closer)|drop= Drops commodities}} {{NPCTableRow|Station|1|Kruul's Pleasure Garden (Farther)|trigger= Triggers reinforcements when damaged}} |} {{Missionrelated}} [[Category:Security missions]]

List waves in order of appearance. If a single wave has multiple groups, split them with {{NPCTableSeparator}}. List rats from smallest to largest with sentries last. Try to keep NPC names short enough to avoid stretching the tables. For example if there are multiple cruisers just add /... and don't give all the individual names.

Notes

  1. ^ All storyline agents are level 1. The level of a storyline mission is defined by the level of the missions it is awarded for.
