EUNI Community Standards

Purpose and Explanation

EUNI Community Standards is the name for our preferred standards of communication. ECS is a simple abbreviation that will encapsulate the following ideas: We would like to maintain a welcoming environment for as many people as possible. In order to do so, we ask that people refrain from profanity, sexual comments, or hate speech. Divisive topics, such as real life religion or politics should also be avoided. These are hard to handle civilly in a huge multicultural environment. The occasional mild profanity, innuendo, or off color joke will occur. They should be occasional and limited. We are all human and aren't expecting continual perfection or a complete absence of anything that might be objectionable. We can not keep every single person from ever being offended. But, we can work to create the most inclusive environment possible. These rules are to set a tone for our community.

Our intention is that the majority of Uni communications will continue to be under ECS rules. We also understand that some individuals want to have opportunities for different types of expression, such as drunken fleets. At this point, we are trying to provide an outlet for these activities, as long they are clearly labeled so that people know what they are joining. However, if we find that people are turning everything into a non-ECS activity by default, we will be forced to reevaluate this policy and possibly remove the non-ECS option. Our expectation is that ECS will be the norm, and non-ECS will be the exception, not the reverse.

Even in non-ECS channels derogatory remarks issued towards specific races, cultures, countries, sexes, or sexual orientations must not happen. Sexual content is especially hard to draw a line on, as EVE draws from an incredibly wide variety of cultures and backgrounds. Explicit pornography is not permitted by E-UNI members. Be very careful when posting any content of a sexual nature.

What to avoid under ECS

  1. Divisive Topics, such as real world religion or politics
  2. Profanity
  3. Sexual Content
  4. Personal attacks or derogatory statements
