*How To Ninja Gas Harvest With The Venture Mining Frigate:
*(This information is outdated. Sleepers now target out to 350km and will move towards any ships on grid and will launch missles at extreme range resulting in lost Ventures. Gas sites in W-hole space now have to be cleared prior to mining after the 15 minute timer spawn timer has passed. - Abetorix Lincoln)
From the above info you can see that the only Gas site to avoid is the "Token Perimeter Reserve". All the others contain at least one valuable gas. All have Sleepers so you only have ~15 minutes to get as much gas as you can before they arrive and make short work of the Venture (harvesting gas before the Sleepers arrive and then leaving is sometimes called "Ninja Huffing"). Also, note that the Ordinary Reserve has sentries which are there as soon as you warp in. You'll have to clear them with a Battlecruiser or larger before taking a Venture in there. The second, and likely more dangerous threat, is from other pilots. Gas harvesting is boring but you'll need to be spamming d-scan every 5-10 seconds to see if you're about to get dropped on and/or see combat probes. As soon as you see anything likely able to kill you it's time to leave. The Venture has a +2 warp core strength but if you're not paying attention to d-scan a good combat prober could easily get a couple scrambling ships on top of you very quickly. One tactic is to fit a warp core stabilizer in the low and a Prototype ECCM Magnetometric Sensor Cluster in a mid-slot. The thinking being that the warp stab will let you escape any enemy not bringing 4+ points of warp disruption and the ECCM will improve your sensor strength which makes you harder to scan down. The scanning ship will likely find the Gas site well before finding you and send his friends to the site at 0 instead of directly on top of you (or take so long to scan you down you will see the combat probes on d-scan). Since they will be out of scram range you will likely have enough time to align out (to your safe, not directly to the exit which could be bubbled) and if you fitted a medium shield extender you should survive any volleys they do throw at you in that short period of time. You can fit a cloak to the extra high-slot but you'll never be able to use it while harvesting. It is recommended to fit a probe launcher in case your exit disappears while you are harvesting and you need to find a new way home. | From the above info you can see that the only Gas site to avoid is the "Token Perimeter Reserve".
