this is to write down my thoughts on trading.

feel free to already make use of them.

in the long run i will try to write down a Trade 101 and 102 Class from them as well as a extensive Trade Tips page.

Why the market works

  • Hauling takes time
  • People are lazy
  • People like to buy were they are
  • People can make more money in the time they not have to get an item elsewhere because its cheaper there
  • People want to buy everything at one place
  • People dont always know what the usual price of an item is or what it costs in another region
  • People cant type big numbers correctly

Trading Strategies

  • Station trading
  • Inter-Region trading
  • Intra-Region trading

Finding items to trade

  • Mission runner setups, what modules do they use
  • Whats new and in demand
  • Any patch changes that effect items
  • What do all eve players need frequently
  • What gets blown up often
  • What is rare

Spikes in Trading Volume

  • Right after Downtime every day
  • 18-20 when European come online in their evening time
  • At weekends the volume seems generally higher

Note: this is not the case for all items just a general observation

Tips

  • Write as much down as you can to plan trading (volumes, items, opportunities, observations, frequent buyer/seller names)
  • Diversify in as much markets as you can
  • Always keep isk to snatch up cheap items on the market when the opportunity arises
  • Lookout for market resets/buyouts of other people and ride the wave of profits they created
  • Plan into the feature days/weeks/months
  • Dont have to much spare isk laying around - keep you money working with e.g. buy orders
  • Be cautious when hauling - no afk hauling , always warp to 0, don't go to low-sec unless in a proper ship (e.g. transport with cloak)
  • There is no free lunch - if somethings sounds to good, check the numbers three times more
  • Track your progress with out of game tools like eve commander
  • Volume matters
  • Dont put up all your stock on the market if its more than likely gets sold in 1-2 days, it will just make other people underbid you more aggressivly
  • Make use of implants to get more profit (e.g. refine efficiency implants or speed implants for hauling )
  • Markets might not be profitable today but tomorrow and they might be profitable today but not tomorrow -> markets are changing constantly, use that to your advantage
  • To get away from jita 4-4 warp to the moon in front of you and out of the cluster of ships undocking and bumping you out of alignment
  • Know the nearest systems of other regions from your tradehub to check up on other regions fast

Note: there are exceptions to every rule, use your trade smarts to figure out when there is a time to better not go by them

Haulers for Trading

  • Freighter
    • Keep a hauler in cargo and some cargo extenders and shield extenders to make quick intra-region pickup tasks ( dont use the freighter for everything )
  • Hauler (Industrial Ships)
  • Kestrel ( good cargo capacity and fast )
  • Shuttle ( Useful for fast runs with small cargo, always warp to 0.)

Todo

  • ghost orders
  • expiration of Orders
  • mind Games 8 vs 9 vs 0
  • multiorder sniping
  • buyout games
  • place alts in other regions to check prizes quickly
  • mission hubs
  • market hubs
  • market cycles
  • its not always about having the lowest sell / highest buy order (anticipate the market cycles)
  • market research
  • strategies in market pvp
  • why shorter time orders can be better
  • how to use the market windows
  • interpretation of market graphs
  • filter settings
  • supply management
  • buying items for reprocessing and selling the minerals
