The Squall is an upcoming Upwell hauler to be released with the Equinox expansion on 11 June 2024. It features an Infrastructure bay, which CCP has said will be able to hold the new Reagent materials that this expansion will introduce, as well as Planetary Industry materials, moon goo, and Upwell structures and equipment. It features better base health stats than other tech 1 haulers, and also has up to six effective missile launchers at max skills, giving it missile firepower comparable to a Caracal, a tech 1 cruiser. CCP has stated that production costs will be higher than other T1 haulers, which are around 2M ISK, with the Squall aimed to cost as much as a tech 1 cruiser to manufacture at around 20M ISK.

In promotional media, CCP has pitched this ship as being able to fill two roles. One is simply as a tankier version of a PI hauler like an Epithal that can better defend itself with its shield tank and onboard missile launchers. The other is as a loot truck in raiding parties against Skyhooks, the attackable source of reagent materials that will be introduced in Equinox. CCP stated that it hopes that the combat capabilities of the ship will allow haulers that would otherwise be in a passive and/or multiboxed role to instead actively take part in fights.

The Squall-class hauler was first commissioned from ORE by Upwell to aid in their nullsec colonization efforts. Building on ORE's recent advances in compression technology and their experience with large specialized cargoholds, the Squall has been outfitted with a Infrastructure Hold capable of storing many items produced by Upwell, such as structures, service modules, sovereignty infrastructure, planetary infrastructure, and deployables. Additionally, the hold also contains several sealed subchambers, allowing it to safely transport and maintain suitable environments for almost any kind of Reagent, Organism or Entity.

With Upwell shipping lanes facing new increasing threats from the emergence of The Deathless Circle and rising pirate activity in YC125, Mordu's Legion was brought onboard as a co-designer, outfitting the Squall with an array of missile defenses. Despite being a Hauler, the Squall is capable of deterring most small pirate raiding and scouting fleets without an escort.

Summary

The Squall is an Upwell hauler released with the Equinox expansion on 11 June 2024. It features an Infrastructure bay, which CCP has said will be able to hold the Reagent materials that this expansion introduced, as well as Planetary Industry materials, moon goo, and Upwell structures and equipment. It features better base health stats than other tech 1 haulers, and its 3 missile launchers have effective DPS of 6 launchers at max Upwell Hauler skills due to the missile damage bonus, giving it missile firepower comparable to a Caracal, a tech 1 cruiser. CCP has stated that production costs will be higher than other T1 haulers, which are around 2M ISK, with the Squall aimed to cost as much as a tech 1 cruiser to manufacture at around 20M ISK.

Skills

Further information about additional or recommended skills to pilot Squall for a specific or its common role(s) can be written here.

Tactics

In promotional media, CCP has pitched this ship as being able to fill two roles. One is simply as a tankier version of a PI hauler like an Epithal that can better defend itself with its shield tank and onboard missile launchers. The other is as a loot truck in raiding parties against Skyhooks, the attackable source of reagent materials introduced in Equinox. CCP stated that it hopes that the combat capabilities of the ship will allow haulers that would otherwise be in a passive and/or multiboxed role to instead actively take part in fights.
