The Metamorphosis is a far more capable vessel, fully able to operate as scouting and surveying vessel in the depths of unknown space. While the vessel has some combat capability for defensive purposes in potentially dangerous territory, it is more suited to its intended exploration, hacking, and archaeological surveying purpose.

In typical SoCT fashion, the Metamorphosis has a balanced module fitting layout and is capable of using a wide variety of weapons and equipment for its class. While by no means as potent as the Gnosis- and Praxis-class vessels, this handy little frigate is a remarkable transformation of the hull it is based on into an agile and swift option for explorers.

Metamorphosis have one more edge against the Astero, which is its 0 CPU requirement for Probe Launchers. This extends to Extended Probe Launcher which has very high CPU cost that causes fitting problems for Astero and other Covert Op ships, making Metamorphosis one of the best Combat Prober in the game once you factor in the hull bonuses. It is an amazing scanner with suboptimal hunting capability, making it popular as a pure scanner in Wormholes, while trading off anti-bubble capability of a Buzzard or Anathema with its Sub-2 warp capability
Metamorphosis have one more edge against the Astero, which is its 0 CPU requirement for Probe Launchers. This extends to Extended Probe Launcher which has very high CPU cost that causes fitting problems for Astero and other Covert Op ships. The issue with this is that Metamorphosis do not have Scan Strength bonus nor Scan Deviation bonus towards combat probe unlike the other exploration ships, rendering its usage as combat scanner limited to deployables. As a PvP hunter ship, Astero or a [[Heron]] is better at scanning down ships.

While the ship has a mobile depot bay, returning the mobile depot requires scooping the mobile depot into the cargo bay first before dragging it to the mobile depot bay. If the ship lacks the required cargo space, the pilot will need to jettison ([[Containers#Jettison container|jet can]]) enough cargo to make space for the mobile depot, scoop the depot, move it to the mobile depot bay, and then recover the cargo from the jet can.
