Hydra Destroyer Fleet

General description

A Destroyer fleet is a very cheap and still very efficient fleet setup. It is set up around some basic Hydra setups, which means all ships have distributed ewar and tackle modules. Young players who can’t fly Destroyers yet, can bring any T1 tackle frigate from the general fitting section.

Pros and Cons

Advantages:

This is a very cheap fleet. Meta 0 dessies can cost as few as 1 million, even a T2 fit Dessy does not cost more than 20m
This fleet is able to punch quite above its own weight. Even losing the whole fleet will most likely let you come out ahead isk-wise
This is a very good fleet to try your hand at FC’ing (especially if you manage to win an experienced scout/punter) as the worst case scenario, losing the whole fleet, is not that bad
The fleet is quite agile so you can move quite fast
Pretty much everyone can bring a frig or a dessy

Disadvantages:

A Dessy fleet can not stay toe on toe with a fleet the same size in bigger ships and slug it out
Be aware of smartbombing BS. People will bring it just for your fleet, prepare beforehand and tell new players the typical smartbomb BS and how to avoid getting hit.

Command structure

Usually you don’t have any specific command structure. It is very handy to have a Punter in the FC, WC or SC position.

Tactics

Dessy gangs are usually used to either kill a single target fast under the nose of a stronger fleet and then run or to kill as many ships before everyone is dead. As Dessys are usually fit for close range to maximize dps, you need to get in your engagement range. Unless the targets are at a warpable object, you usually will try to get a warp-in or a punt onto a target. As you will usually focus on a small number of targets, you don’t need everyone to bring tackle. That means there are ships with midslots left to fit (unbonused) Ewar modules.

Fits

The fits are set up in a way that every race has a standard fit so the different modules (warp disruptor, scram, web, TDs) are spread around. If you - as an FC - get lots of one race’s ships, you might want to adjust fittings according to squads.
