Although EVE University has a long history in - and is fairly well-known throughout - New Eden, this does not mean we should not engage with the wider community in informing new and old members of our existence and purpose. Public relations is an important part of all major corps and alliances, although in EVE it is more often than not known as propaganda.
Out-of-pod EVE
Apart from just informal discussion in in-game channels, there are many out-of-game mediums to use for talking about EVE and E-UNI, some of which are very popular with both capsuleers and developers.
Blogs
Blogging about your activities is very popular in EVE, there are so many that both the unofficial list and the official list are both rather large pages and still incomplete!
You can set up a free blog at http://wordpress.com/, although there are many other blog creation tools & sites out there.
Searching the hashtags #eveonline or #tweetfleet will produce many EVE tweeters - including seemingly most of CCP's developers - and CCP's official account(s). The 'proper' EVE Online hashtag is #eveonline, although #tweetfleet is the common term for Twitter based capsuleers, and possibly the more popular EVE-related hashtag.
Twitter does not care whether your account name or display name is your real name or not, and so many players set up accounts for their characters and communicate in this way. To be added to this incomplete list of E-UNI members (and some alumni!) on twitter, tweet or direct message Kivena.
There is a popular subreddit dedicated to eve at /r/eve, where many well-known capsuleers can be found as well as plenty of CCP developers. You can also add flairs (small icons) to your Reddit name, and the E-UNI corporation icon is available. Reddit names with the CCP Games flair are CCP developers.
Vote brigading (asking your corp to upvote your posts/comments) is not allowed.
EVE Online and EVE University both maintain Facebook pages, and there is a large unofficial discussion group for EVE Online here.
Because of Facebook's policy of only allowing real names, it is not a major discussion medium for capsuleers. You may find a few capsuleers, flying under the radar of Facebook's policy enforcement, but setting up an account for your character (entirely separate from your real name account) is technically against their site rules.
Posters/Images
EVE has a long tradition of propaganda images doing the rounds on forums & other social media. Here's some examples from various alliances & corporations over the past ten years (the top row are all by Rixx Javix), click for the full-size image:
E-UNI PR
There are many ways you can help out EVE University's PR department - not least of which is simply to talk about us and spread the word to new capsuleers!
Write for EVE University's front page
If you don't want the effort and/or costs involved to set up your own blog, why not write for our front page?
We welcome contributions from current EVE University members on any appropriate subject, including but not limited to:
- News of upcoming events
- Reports of recent events
- After-action reports of major E-UNI engagements
- Opinion pieces on aspects (or changes) to EVE Online may also be submitted, although these should be well thought-out and insightful, and should state that you are writing as an individual and your opinions may not reflect those of EVE University.
Articles for the front page should
- stick to the point,
- use short paragraphs,
- may contain images,
- and must be properly spelled and grammaticized.
To submit a post, first log in to the forums, then follow the News link at the top of the page, just under the EVE University Forum title. The front page should have a grey bar across the top - click the + New button on that bar to write a new post (formatting and layout tools are available) then press Submit for Review.
It is a good idea to then alert Kivena (preferably via any E-UNI Slack channel or Twitter) that you have a post waiting to be approved. Do not worry about getting your spelling & grammar perfect, it will be corrected if any errors are found!
Make your own propaganda posters!
We will gladly accept images from graphic artists (and budding graphic artists) advertising EVE University.
Feel free to post to the PR thread here, or forum PM to Kivena.
