This is not a punishment, but a way to reflect on their actions and what they have learned. It also assists fleet commanders and our diplomats, who will sometimes need to know the story behind a ship loss. If members do not comment on their ship losses this may affect their ability to obtain additional access within EVE University.

This is especially relevant where a member appears on a ship kill with other people who are not members of EVE University, where the victim is a member of EVE University or one of our allies, or where there are other unusual circumstances.
