Streaming most commonly refers to the transmission of video so that others may observe one's actions in realtime or near-realtime, e.g. streaming to Twitch.tv. The term also includes audio streams, or any other kind of information stream.
Video Publishing refers to making video available for public consumption but typically long after the operation has taken place, e.g. posting a recorded video to YouTube. Note that the term also includes making a video stream recording available after the initial streaming. Many streaming services allow temporary or permanent archiving of streams for later viewing.
Streaming of Fleet Operations
- In EVE University, the streaming of fleet operations is NOT ALLOWED by default.
- Any Fleet Commander (FC) may allow his/her fleet to be streamed on a per-fleet basis. The FC may stream the fleet operations himself, or another fleet member may request permission to do so.
- Any fleet that will be streamed must be announced as such during fleet formation, or when its advert/link for the Fleet Finder is posted. Players who join a streamed fleet must be made aware of it.
- Fleet operations must always be streamed on at least a 5 minute delay.
- Obscure any potential intel leaks (e.g. chat windows) unless you specifically wish to relay that intel, e.g. when inviting a fight.
Fleet Safety and Streaming
There are many good reasons for streaming a fleet operation. Some FC's may even wish to stream to encourage hostiles to engage, to find more fights.
The key point is that the fleet members are made aware of this, and that players may opt out of a fleet if they do not wish to incur the extra risk. Or perhaps they may wish to fly a cheaper ship, or jump out of their expensive clone.
Publishing Fleet Operation Videos
- In EVE University, the recording and later publishing of fleet operation videos is NOT ALLOWED by default.
- Any Fleet Commander (FC) may allow his/her fleet operations to be recorded on a per-fleet basis. The FC may record the fleet operations himself, or another fleet member may request permission to do so.
- No pre-announcement is required for video recording and later publishing.
- Obscure any potential intel leaks (e.g. chat windows) before publishing the video, if any intel is shown that should not be made publicly available. Note that if a stream is to be published, then such intel should have already been obscured during the stream itself.
- Note that these rules apply only to published videos. There are no restrictions for recording a video for one's personal review.
- It is perfectly allowable to record a fleet video for one's own personal review, and then later request from the FC that it be published.
