Most people leave them alone because it doesn't make anything go boom. Sites are named with several tags such as "Barren Perimeter Reservoir", but only the first name is important in designating what gas is present and thus the value of the site. Some gas is virtually worthless and one is some of the best isk/hour in the game currently. See the table below for the gas types present in each site. Expect to be able to mine between 2000-2500m3 of gas before the sleepers spawn. "Core" sites, instrumental and vital, only appear deep in dangerous or deadly wormhole space in wormholes rated C5 or C6.
As with Ore sites, the sleepers in Gas sites do not appear on warp in ( | As with Ore sites, the sleepers in Gas sites do not appear on warp in (Except for Ordinary sites - see "Site Composition and Defenses" below) but rather appear roughly 20 mins after the site has been activated. With a self-repping Battle Cruiser or equivalent it is possible to clear the sleepers for up to C3 gas sites. C5 and above generally require fleets although certain strategies may result in clears such as high skill rail Naga sniping clears of instrumental sites.
A further danger in W-space is other players who seek nothing more or less than the thrill of popping your Venture. Use DCAN frequently and if you see probes appear on DSCAN it's probably time to leave. W-space is fairly sparsely traveled so you can expect to have many uneventful huffs punctuated by occasional attacks. The ninja huffer should expect to encounter hunters perhaps 20% of the time.
