Without tackling ships in a fleet, enemies can simply warp away when they are low on hitpoints. Tackling ships ensnare a target enemy, preventing them from warping away from a fight.

Ships can fit warp stabilizers to make it harder for you to prevent their ability to warp. Each warp stabilizer on an enemy ship requires your fleet to target that ship with an additional "point" of warp disruption.
