Meaning of Alt

There seems to be some confusion about "alts". In the world of MMOs, the term "alt" generally refers to a "alternate account". Eve is a bit unique in that when you create an account, that account consists of 3 characters. In my mind, an "alt" refers to a "alternate account", but many people refer to 2nd and 3rd characters as "alts". Even this page refers to characters as "alts" which I believe is incorrect.

As yet, I haven't been able to find anything definitive on the official "Eve Online" pages (not considering forums), which may be contributing to the confusion. I would like to see this page cleaned up and terms clearly defined.

My suggestion would be to remove any references to "alt characters" and a clear definition of "Alt" as an "Alternate Account".

Alt referring to an alternate account might be specific to an MMO you have played before but in EVE Online, as with other MMOs where multiple characters are allowed per account, an alt has always been tied to the character and not the account. As a side note, use level 2 headings to start a talk discussion and you can use 4 tilde (~) characters to sign your name so we know who left the comment without looking at history all the time like so Biwako acami (talk) 09:01, 29 January 2018 (CST)
I would argue it's either. That the term is and should be used generically as it often does not matter if the alternative character is on an another account or not. If that matters, it should be specified for clarity. That's my two cents worth.
