Scouting certification is a requirement for ILN members who wish to [[Wartime Standard Operating Procedures#Scouting|scout]] for fleets during wartime '''and''' fly a Tech 2 Covert Ops frigate for that purpose. Scout certification is '''NOT''' required during peacetime or during wartime if the scout is flying a T1 ship. The purpose of certification is to reduce wartime ship losses of expensive T2 ships due to a lack of pilot expertise.

Here we go through the basics required to fly a Covert Ops frigate determine an appropriate and suitable skill plan to train to achieve this goal, and how to fit out your ship.

When fitting your covert-ops ship it is important to keep in mind the priorities of a scout and add modules accordingly.

To get a good basis for flying a Covert Ops frigate we will be building upon material taught in the classes and/or audio files related to the below topics: Bookmarks, Directional Scan, EFT, Scan Probes, Fleets, Wormholes. It is highly recommended to listen to these classes at least once if not more then once.

All practical components of this stage can be completed in a Tech 1 scanning frigate (Magnate, Heron, Probe, Imicus) with a prototype cloaking device. Forum PM or EVE Mail one of the Task Force Security Liaisons to schedule a session. Both can be scheduled at the same time and would take about 1.5hrs to complete as a combined practical. During wartime, this can be done using an out-of-corporation (OOC) alt character.

In this component of the course we will be using a T1 frigate (Magnate, Heron, Imicus, Probe) to practice some of the skills used as a Scout. This will focus on using every tool available to you excluding probes, and a significant portion of this will involve using D-Scan. This can be done as a class (just Forum PM or EVE Mail the course coordinator for interest), or as a One-on-One tutorial session.

In this component of the course we will cover more advanced topics still using a T1 frigate (Magnate, Heron, Imicus, Probe) with a fitted probe launcher and a collection of probes. This is a one-on-one session where you will be performing a practical demonstration of the skills you have learned and this includes hunting down your instructor (or some other poor hapless sap that volunteered for the job). During this time you may be quizzed about the topics you have covered/learned so far to ensure your understanding of the course material is complete.
