The term Bacongate refers to a period when E-UNI's general chat channel was repeatedly overrun by discussions and references to bacon, to the point where University leadership was forced to put the channel on lockdown, disallowing all talk not directly related to EVE. Many were muted or banned during these dark times, but eventually things died down and everyone got on with their lives.
Following Bacongate, it was stated that general chat was allowed once again, though questions regarding the game were to be given priority at all times and discussions that looked to be taking over the channel were to be taken elsewhere (preferably a private channel).
Rumors of the establishment of a secret, underground Bacon.E-UNI chat channel persist to this day.
