The Discovery Scanner is ~~basically~~ a new visualisation of the former on-board scanner, with a few additions. Every time you enter a system the Discovery Scanner will start to search for cosmic anomalies and signatures. You can also interact with those icons via a tooltip window that will pop up when you hover over them.
