I got to step 5 in the application process and then ran into a problem with the Mumble program.

Included below is the conversation thread I had with the Mumble help line. They were not able to fix the problem. Anyone else who reads this if you have any ideas I am open to try them.

Andrew: Thank you for contacting support, my name is Andrew. I am currently looking into your Mumble question:

“I think I messed up this program bigtime. My talk keys are set to the mouse buttons so I can't run the program and use the EVE ONLINE program at the some time. I also lost the tool bar at the top of the window and without the mouse buttons working because the settings have been changed I do not know how to fix it. I tried uninstalling the program but when it was reinstalled the problems were still there. Any advice?”


Andrew: I would be more then happy to assist you with your issue. :)

Andrew: If you go to configure and select settings and then on the left side click on shortcuts you can add and remove the assigned keys.

Dragonforger: Wish I could but I can't because there is no "Configure" or "Settings" button available because the window was changed to minimal info or something. Can't figure out how to change it back because the mouse buttons are messed up.

Dragonforger: Any way to send you a screen shot?

Andrew: Please close out completely out of Mumble.

Dragonforger: done

Andrew: Then go to the mumble folder in the c: drive

Andrew: Once you located the Mumble folder you are looking for a folder that is named $appdata% and delete that folder within Mumble.

Andrew: After that is done please try to connect back and see if that reset the setting for you.

Dragonforger: would that folder be in the c: drive under program files or is this the same folder where I downloaded the install file to?

Andrew: Yes you are correct it should be something like this: C:programs/username/mumble/%appdata%

Andrew: something similar to the above.

Dragonforger: A search for programs and files came up with a Mumble folder with three sub folders Overlay, Plugins, and Snapshots, also a file that says Console and mumble.sqlite? Nothing I can access in those folders.

Andrew: If you click on the start button and type in the box %appdata% and just delete the Mumble folder. that would do the trick. Dragonforger: Not yet.

Andrew: That did not fix the issue?

Dragonforger: No. If I turn on Mumble and then go to my game I can not use the mouse buttons. If Mumble is off the game works fine.

Andrew: Let's try to run mumble as administrator to see if that changes it.

Dragonforger: The only Mumble buttons to click on would be add new or cancel on the server connect window. The other window is totally blank.

Andrew: Right click on the blank mumble screen and click on minimal view.

Dragonforger: I can not right click. The mouse buttons in mumble are messed up. nothing happens.

Dragonforger: I think I assigned the right click button to talking so now I can't use it to right click

Andrew: press control and right click.

Andrew: see if it over rides it.

Dragonforger: OK, that did not work but now my left mouse click button makes a chiming noise each time I hit it and still nothing usefull happens

Andrew: Uninstall mumble and once its uninstall click on the start and type in %appdata% and remove mumble folder and then re install mumble.

Dragonforger: ok, now working on the re install

Andrew: Take your time.

Dragonforger: No, same problem as before. A blank Mumble -- 1.2.5 screen that chimes at me when I right click and does nothing with the left chick. The other window, the Server Connect window gives me only the connect, add new, or cancel options.

Dragonforger: I really thought I uninstalled everything. really does not make sence

Dragonforger: The blank Mumble -- 1.2.5 window is also locked in place on the screen. I can not move it around.

Dragonforger: I can not exit out of the blank window either.

Dragonforger: windows task manager shows all programs running normally

Andrew: I would suggest is that he uninstalls mumble, deletes the mumble appdata folder, restarts the PC and then download and installs a new copy of mumble.

Dragonforger: I will give that a try. Thank you.

“Same problem as before. Andrew was helping me. It got worse however. I downloaded the skin file and it turned everything blue. I uninstalled everything again and then did the reinstall but everything in the window is still blue. I do not think everything was really removed from the uninstall.”

Andrew: Welcome back. :)

Dragonforger: almost happy to be here

Andrew: I believe that the it's not being completely uninstalled, do you need locating this file?

Dragonforger: any help would be ... helpfull

Andrew: Are you using windows 7 or 8?

Dragonforger: 7

Andrew: This would be the file path that would need to be followed: C:\Users\dustin\AppData\Roaming however where it shows dustin it would be the username on your PC.

Andrew: Then you would right click on the mumble folder and select "Delete"

Andrew: Empty the recycling bin and then install the software again.

Dragonforger: I already did that but I will try again. Also because the mumble program is running the mouse button does not work so I would need to drag and drop the mumble folder into the recycling bin. I will exit the program first... which will fix my mouse.. then right click and delete the mumble folder then empty the recycling bin... just as I did before.

Andrew: Okay, let me know the results.

Dragonforger: I did that but the mumble folder still appears in my start menu

Andrew: Right click on the file and select delete.

Andrew: Have you removed the software via the control panel, program and features and select mumble click on it and then select uninstall.

Dragonforger: doing that now

Dragonforger: ok, same as before everything is uninstalled and empty from the recycling bin. I will also delete the original install folder I downloaded... again

Andrew: thank you.

Dragonforger: ok, once again everything should be gone from the computer... but it won't be because when I re-download and reinstall the file as before now the same blue frozen window will come up with the mouse not working... unless you have any other ideas first.

Dragonforger: I found a mumbleautomaticcertificatebackup in mydocuments I will try getting rid of it

Andrew: has this ever worked before for you?

Dragonforger: no, this is the first I am using the program because I need it for the eve-online game. never got it to work right because I messed up the mouse keys before getting the chance to use the program

Andrew: Are you willing do try a system restore on your PC?

Dragonforger: no... I just got rid of the automatic certificate backup file I found so I am going to try that first

Dragonforger: give me some time

Andrew: Take your time.

Dragonforger: Still did not work. Same blue blank screen that chimes at me without my mouse working.

Andrew: I have set my mouse in mumble to use right/left key for push to talk and I am still able to right click and bring up the shortcut the menu.

Andrew: Please give me a moment.

Dragonforger: I will try using a different mouse...

Dragonforger: different mouse, same problem with the right click button. must be software, not hardware. Must also be some other file not being deleated

Dragonforger: mouse only has problems when Mumble is running. works fine after I close the program.

Andrew: Please give me a moment. :)

Dragonforger: the last wipe and re-install did not get rid of the blue skin on the program either even thought I downloaded the basic file for the re-install.

Andrew: I do apologize for the inconvenience however I have exhausted all possible solutions to fix this issue.

Andrew: I would suggest that you please click on this link: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ this is the developers website, you can possibly ask on the forum to see if anyone else has a fix.

Dragonforger: so my only choice then is to try a complete wipe and re-install of the entire operating system to get rid of this issue. Could it be a setting that gets saved somewhere online?

Dragonforger: ok.

Andrew: You could just do a system restore that would not wipe out your whole computer.

Dragonforger: ok, thank you for trying.

Andrew: This would only restore to the last previous known backup made.
