Afterburner
From EVE University Wiki
Basic Description
A module that boosts the speed of the ship when activated for closing down a target, or escaping an enemy. They can also be used to help boost your transveral speed against an enemy and therefore make it harder for bigger ships in particular to score a successful hit against you.
Afterburners take up a medium power slot on your ship fitting.
There are different sizes of Afterburner based on basic ship hull size. A rough guide :
- 1MN = Frigate size
- 10MN = Cruiser/Battle Cruiser
- 100MN = Battleship+
Drawbacks
- Extra capacitor consumption as it cycles
- Longer ship alignment speeds whilst it is active.
- Afterburners don't provide anywhere near as much of a speed boost as a Microwarpdrive, (roughly 100% boost rather than 500% depending on variations) but come with less penalties.
Advantages vs a Microwarpdrive
- Considerably less skill and fitting requirements
- They can still be used in Mission deadspaces that interfere with warp fields.
- They don't have a penalty to Capacitor size
- They don't have a penalty to ship signature size whilst active.
- They aren't affected by your ship being Warp Scrambled.
