this is to write down my thoughts on trading.
feel free to already make use of them.
in the long run i will try to write down a Trade 101 and 102 Class from them as well as a extensive Trade Tips page.
Why the market works
- hauling takes time
- people are lazy
- people like to buy were they are
- people can make more money in the time they not have to get an item elsewhere because its cheaper there
- people want to buy everything at one place
- people dont always know what the usual price of an item is or what it costs in another region
- people cant type big numbers correctly
Trading Strategies
- station trading
- inter-region trading
- intra-region trading
Finding items to trade
- mission runner setups, what modules do they use
- whats new and in demand
- any patch changes that effect items
- what do all eve players need frequently
- what gets blown up often
- what is rare
Spikes in Trading Volume
- right after Downtime every day
- 18-20 when European come online in their evening time
- at weekends the volume seems generally higher
Note: this is not the case for all items just a general observation
Tips
- write as much down as you can to plan trading (volumes, items, opportunities, observations, frequent buyer/seller names)
- diversify in as much markets as you can
- always keep isk to snatch up cheap items on the market when the opportunity arises
- lookout for market resets/buyouts of other people and ride the wave of profits they created
- plan into the feature days/weeks/months
- dont have to much spare isk laying around - keep you money working with e.g. buy orders
- be cautious when hauling - no afk hauling , always warp to 0, don't go to low-sec unless in a proper ship (e.g. transport with cloak)
- there is no free lunch - if somethings sounds to good, check the numbers three times more
- track your progress with out of game tools like eve commander
- volume matters
- dont put up all your stock on the market if its more than likely gets sold in 1-2 days, it will just make other people underbid you more aggressivly
Note: there are exceptions to every rule, use your trade smarts to figure out when there is a time to better not go by them
