Velocity

The overview will show you the value "Velocity" for objects around you as a value e.g. "123 m/s". This value scalar quantity of the absolute velocity of the object in relation to the universe, In other words, this is how fast the object moves.

Note: Velocity is the speed of the object.

Math Note: Since velocity is a vector and the information displayed is the scalar quantity, this can be misleading or confusing. Just play along, this is the future after all.

Radial Velocity

Radial Velocity describes in EVE the speed at which the distance between you and the object changes.

If the distance between you and the object increases, the value is positive. If the distance between you and the object decreases, the value is negative.

Note: Radial Velocity is negative, you will crash into something.

Transversal Velocity

Transversal Velocity describes in EVE the speed at which an object moves on a 90° relative to you.

If the object is moving any other movement then straight towards you or away, it will have a transversal velocity. Due to the nature of this value, it will be always positive.

If the object is standing still or moving in a straight line towards you or away (or you are), the transversal velocity is 0. if the object has any other movement, the transversal velocity will show you how fast this movement is.

Angular Velocity

Angular velocity describes in EVE the speed at which an object and you rotates around each other. It is measured in radiants per second. A full circle has 2 * π (PI) radians. If the angular velocity is 6,283, the object is rotating around you a full circle every second.

Angular velocity has a very important relationship with transversal velocity.

Angular Velocity = Transversal Velocity / Range
