| I am an agent working for the Republic Parliament, and I was sent to Barkrik to investigate rumors of an incredible breach of Minmatar law by the Amarrian corporation Joint Harvesting. This corporation was given rights to this patch of space a few years ago, after some of their key members were the first major Amarrian figures to officially expressed 'regret' for the crimes committed by the Empire, and so far we have had little trouble with them, other than the strong opposition from hard-liners within the government.
But certain rumors are afloat within the inner circles of the Republic, and beyond, that Joint Harvesting actually employs slaves on at least one of their plantations within Barkrik. This rumor has never been proven, and therefore we have not yet taken action. Powerful 'elements' within the Minmatar government have been pressing for the military to directly intervene and make a political scene out of this mess. This is exactly what Karin Midular does not need. If this rumor turns out to be true, her agenda of peace between the Republic and the Empire will go up in smoke, and all our hard work for the past years will be for nothing. The skirmishes you see today between our forces will be nothing compared to what follows if war is officially declared, and I'm sure the hard liners within the Republic will be pressing hard for that to happen as soon as this gets out. Now you're probably asking yourself, where do you come into all of this? Well, I was sent to Barkrik on a mission, which unfortunately I can't complete due to a breakdown in my ship's engine. I'd like you to complete my objectives for me, as I don't have much time. I'll pay you for it, of course. Your first job is to escort the Republic ambassador, Hugo Farin, from Barkrik II - Moon 10 - Joint Harvesting Food Packaging to his office in Orduin V - Moon 7 - Republic Parliament Bureau. He was visiting the Joint Harvesting chief of staff in Barkrik, as well as taking a good look at their plantations here. I was assigned to transport him back home, but obviously I can't complete my assignment on time. |

| Your second job is to bring one of our inspectors, Layna Whizon, to me. She is one of two plantation inspectors that we haven't retrieved yet after our ambassador's visit to Barkrik. I warn you, the trip will be a long one, the Amarrians there had the crazy idea of placing the beacon leading into the deadspace pockets very far away from the acceleration gates linking the rooms. I suggest you take a fast ship on this trip, and I'm also afraid your micro-Warpdrive will be inoperable due to the effects of deadspace. |
In this mission you will need to travel through multiple deadspace pockets and burn hundreds of kilometers to reach the next gate in them. The briefing says that MWDs won't work but that is outdated information and they do work.
No enemy ships need to be destroyed (you should not engage any ships in the mission). Just fly until you reach the final pocket and grab the mission item.

| After we came to Barkrik on our mission for Republic Parliament, we stumbled upon some local rumors of a hidden Amarr slave plantation within the system. We tried investigating it for some time, but to no avail. However, one of our top secret agents, Bono Zakan, went missing during the investigation. The last we heard from him was a transmission from a remote area of Barkrik where he called for help. We couldn't trace it unfortunately, but I firmly believe he found something he wasn't supposed to.
I don't know if Bono's alive or dead, but I want him or his body returned to me for proper burial. I also want you to investigate the claims of this hidden plantation while you're at it, perhaps the two are linked. To search for the plantation, I suggest you use scan probes within Barkrik. With luck the Amarrians will have placed some sort of cosmic signature near the entrance to lead their own convoys to the area. You could also fly to every moon within the system and hope to stumble upon it's entrance, if you have no way of acquiring a scan probes. Good luck. |
