After clearing out the mission, I came back with an Endurance and a tanked-and-mining fit Stratios. I used the Endurance to conduct a mining survey, broadcast the Veldspar asteroid with the least amount of ore (5000 units, 500 m^3), then warped out the Endurance. I then had the Stratios mine out that asteroid completely. No smartbomb pulses were detected.
This is not an exhaustive test, but it does call into question the accuracy of the smartbomb claim. If there are smartbomb pulses, then further elaboration is required.
