How To WH

A stripped down guide for important things to remember (or, "Things that annoy Mattikus").

Mapper

  1. Find POSs before launching probes Probes scare people away. Systems should be d-scanned and POS tracked down to see if there is any content before probes are dropped. Site runners / etc. will be scared off if they see probes on d-scan.
  2. Update POSs in the mapper When content happens, it can be extremely useful to know where the active POSs in a system are. If the mapper isn't updated, it deprives us of valuable intel.
  3. Pick sensible letters for chains There isn't currently a rule about what the name of the next new chain has to be (other than B/ E). It may be helpful to try and use the letters in alphabetical order (trying not to leave gaps) to make it easier to keep track of what has/hasn't been used. There is a convention that systems linked directly to Innu get names starting at Z and working backwards.
  4. Keep the mapper up-to-date If you notice a signature isn't in space any longer, delete it from the mapper. Trudging 5 jumps down a chain to scan down a WH sig / run a site that is listed in the mapper only to find it isn't there any longer is frustrating. Help everyone by keeping the mapper data current.
  5. Clean up bookmarks When a WH dies, it needs to be removed from the mapper AND the in-game bookmarks. That includes everything in the chain that was lost - links to other WHs and sigs. Not cleaning this out means that the bookmarks become much harder to manage. If several chains have come/gone without BMs being deleted, it can take quite a while to work out which BMs are current and which aren't. It is vastly easier to remove these while you still have the mapper data for the dead chain
  6. Don't use "me" on mumble Most people won't recognise your voice. If people ask for a warp-in, say your name rather than "me".
