User Settings are not stored Server Side. If you move computer or there is a client crash, preferences may be reset to default, carefully constructed [[overview]]s gone, the Contacts and Bookmarks organization wiped (though the actual contacts and locations remain).  
During normal use of a computer there will be a client crashes. Depending on the severity, users' EVE Online experience can be greatly and negatively effected. Upon reboot and relogging into EVE all user preferences may be reset to default, carefully constructed [[Overview Guide|overviews]] gone, the People & Places organization wiped (though the actual contacts and locations remain). Backing-up these settings and preferences is the only way of quickly restoring this vital data <ref> CCP GM Zhainius, EVE Online Customer Support, 2010.05.06</ref>.
 
 
To keep these settings and preferences for future use or backup, users can make a copy of the cache and settings folders.
 
Locate the following folder, assuming the EVE client is installed in the default location:

Press Windows Key + R and paste the following line into the Run window.

Users will find the cache and settings folders, rename/move both of them in order to save them.  Restore the saved versions to the appropriate version location after a major client crash in order to reset your client preferences and settings.
