Desirable Starting path for new players to use Abyss as a way of learning the game

Test path by using new alt doing only what is written.
Short introduction to the in-game activity. Do not link to more information yet so as to not overwhelm new players. Have a "Recommended further reading"/"Useful Links" section at the end/after each step.
Explanation of what Abyss can be for new players, eg. a way for new players to gain a deep understanding of core-game mechanics while making ISK doing a very accesible activity.
Overview of steps and how to use the Abyss path. First step should mainly consist of skills that will be usefull no matter what activity you will end up doing in Eve

Chris Halsky (talk) 16:29, 10 December 2023 (UTC) Alpha to Omega path is IMO bad thing in general. Suggests that Plexing is good idea (it's not). Uriel made it that way (his choice), but we should focus on Abyss guide, not Plexing guide.

Introduction

Introduce players to activity. Teach them how to start doing the activity. Provide paths to learning.

Prerequisites:

  • Finish AIR introduction with Career Agents
  • Join Eve-Uni
  • Set up Mumble
  • Set up Discord
  • Join Forum
  • Join in-game chats (which ones?)
  • Set up Uni overlay
  • Attend/Watch Eve-Uni CORE Career class & CORE Skill Planning class

Mechanics to learn:

  • How to use the Uni overview
  • How to use contracts to get T0 ships/filaments
  • How to use Jita alt to get to market for upgrades/more filaments
  • How to use Uni buyback & Hauling services

How to maneuver ship

  • Maneuvering using hot-keys
  • Target- & Module-management using hot-keys
  • Q-clicking or How to manually steer your ship (add link)
  • How to use drones using hot-keys
  • How to use MWD / AB correctly

Understanding your ship

  • Understand the upgrade path from frigate to cruiser
  • Abyss frigate fits and how to upgrade them
  • Which weapons do I use and which damage do I deal?
  • Which damage am I susceptible to?
  • Which e-war am I susceptible to?
  • Optimal/Effective range of my weapons
  • Further reading:

Skills to train:

  • DD Frigate
  • ?
  • ?

Move to running T1 solo in frigate consistently

Teach more specific Abyss skills. Deeper understanding of PvE mechanics. Continue on Abyss path towards cruisers.

Prerequisites:

  • Run solo T0s
  • Upgraded Tristan

Mechanics to learn:

  • Abyssal Deadspaces
    • Which ships can run which filaments?
    • DPS & EHP req per filament tier
    • Towers and Clouds

Ship knowledge

  • How to use heat
  • Which damage to deal based on enemy/filament type
  • Bosters and Implants, when and why?
  • Control range
  • Pods

Enemy knowledge

  • Which enemy do what kind of damage/e-war, make your own cheat sheet
  • Kill orders
  • Danger rating of enemies
  • How to research PvE enemies

SP plan:

  • ?
  • DD Cruiser
  • L1 Fitting
  • L2 Tank
  • L3 ?

Further reading:

  • Abyss tracker
  • 3rd Party fitting tool
  • How to find a system to pop higher-tier filaments

Move up to T2 - T4 solo in cruiser

No more handholding should be required. Move on to Gila.

Community building ideas

Some further thoughts on community building:

Have competitions for:

   - fastest completion time
   - Highest tier reached in ship-type, solo/group
   - Flying suboptimal fits to show player skill
   - Use competition fits for runs or use your own in two separate categories
   - Highest cost/reward ration category

Use competition to create a community that's both learning together to get better results, make ISK along the way and have fun all at the same time.
Try to get our own money vault to fund competition fits and prizes
Also, save my disaster runs. Have players stream (if possible) intentional mistakes and how to fix them. Often in tutorials they only show what to do, not what to do if you make a mistake
3 vets running T6 on a specific budget and not knowing what the other guys are running in terms of ship, filament type etc. Maybe ban some ships, then do the runs.

To-Do/Issues

   - ISK and IRL skill gain exceed SP-gain.
   - Finalize desirable IRL and SP skills
   - Competitions?
   - Create a clearer path to T6
   - Integrate into other Uni-Activities/Classes (Core-class?)
   - Ensure market for Filaments + Ships & Modules
   - Structure wiki
   - Chat-lounge with cheat-sheets
   - Migrate info from third party websites to wiki
   - Find a way to troubleshoot individual newbros

Chat cheat sheet:

  • Electrical
    • Spark Lance = High DPS
    • Tessera / Drekavac = Keep at +11km range
    • Devoted = Fight at close range
    • Overmind / Karen / Leshak = Spiral into Orbit at 500 -> keep frig alive
    • Snarecaster / Entangle / Warden / Upholder / Tangling / Fisher / Arrester = Web
    • Nullcharge / Dissipator / Firewatcher / Starving / Smith / Drainer = Neut
    • Preserver / Renewing / Priest = Reps

    • Kikimora / Drainer Marshal = Kill first
