In a nutshell: Wiki Curators take responsibility for a small section of the wiki, help enhance the pages, review changes by others, proofread, add more links, improve style, and so on. A curator is not necessarily the top authority on a topic, but more of a coordinator for content improvement and a caretaker for existing content. Sometimes a curator and an officer/manager for a particular program may be the same person.

Wiki Curators are editors who are eager to go the extra mile to ensure both their own edits and those of others are of good quality. They are recognized as experienced contributors to the UniWiki and assist in its upkeep and development.

With a more official structure for keeping the wiki tidy also comes a change to prevent obsolete tags from getting in the way of said organizing: Any page tagged with the Template:Work in Progress stating "Please contact original author before making changes" are null and void unless also noted on this page with an estimated short-term completion date. Several pages have gone inactive with that tag on it discouraging new people to take over. By requiring an active note here with an estimated timer we'll prevent that and encourage people to either finish or release work to other interested authors.

Curatorship is one of the least demanding roles to attain. Behold the immense list of requirements:
+
* Become a member of the Wiki Department, a group dedicated to making the UniWiki into the most beautiful and truthful publicly available knowledge repository in all of New Eden
 +
* Gain access to the private Wiki Curator Discord channel
 +
* If desired, may ask for administrator Wiki rights ordinarily reserved for EVE University Managers
 +
* Advise the Wiki Manager, lead and propose UniWiki:Projects that will shape the future of the UniWiki
 +
* Receive a mention on the Wiki Department page even after you retire
 +
* Carry the title of "Wiki Curator" in-game if you are a member of EVE University

* Interest in a topic
+
Becoming a Wiki Curator
* Decent editing skills (formatting, style, decent english for proof reading, etc)

* User account

You do not need even be in EVE Uni to be a curator, so nothing necessarily changes if you go from the student body to alumni. You can even start as alumni. It is probably handy to also have an active EVE account.
+
You become a Wiki Curator and a member of the Wiki Department, when the Wiki Manager gives you the Wiki Curator award.

To qualify simply start editing any page(s) in the wiki you consider relevant to a topic of your interest. Curatorships will vary in size with some made up by a single page and others a few, such as Planetary Interaction. Lots of users already have plenty of wiki edits to pages that would more than qualify them to claim official curatorship for the area.
+
To become eligible for the Wiki Curator award you must:
 +
* edit the Wiki for around three months
 +
* maintained an activity level comparable to that of an active Wiki Curator
 +
* demonstrate excellence

When you feel comfortable with the topic and think you have a decent idea of which pages are involved, create a forum thread in E-UNI General Discussion with the set of pages listed requesting feedback from the community on whether it makes sense to group those pages and if anybody else has an interest in helping out. That is a great time to also make a push to improve the pages overall, if needed.
+
There are many ways in which you can demonstrate excellence. Examples include:
 +
* completing a Wiki Project, doing a task from the UniWiki:To-Do List or adding UniWiki:Patch Notes
 +
* making good use of your User Namespace
 +
* using sandbox or draft pages before publishing major changes to an article
 +
* creating or improving a template
 +
* following the UniWiki:Manual of Style and UniWiki Ideals
 +
* knowing when to answer a question with confidence and when to defer judgement
 +
* communicating and cooperating with other editors
 +
* writing expressive edit summaries

Send a forum PM to the Wiki Manager if s/he hasn't noticed the thread after a couple days to chime in, and after discussion has progressed to the point where it becomes apparent whether or not the area justifies the curator, and that a worthy candidate is available, the decision will be made and celebrations can begin.

If you believe you eligible for the Wiki Curator award, but haven't been contacted by the Wiki Manager, feel free to contact them. They will tell you what else you should do before making you into a Wiki Curator.

Do check here first that there isn't already an active curator declared for that area already :)

Some curators will eventually go inactive for one reason or another. If it isn't apparent if somebody is still active, send them a PM or contact the Wiki Manager. Don't shy away from an area of the wiki needing attention, whether it has an active curator or not - ultimately the goal is to simply improve the wiki's content!

The scope of an individual Wiki Curator's involvement varies, but in general they will:

 +
* assist others with regards to the UniWiki in the UniWiki communication channels
 +
* provide or relay feedback and input to the Wiki Manager with regards to issues experienced on the UniWiki, new changes after implementation, etc.

* assist with tests and development of new features, templates, extensions or other large-scale changes to the UniWiki
 +
* organize and update the UniWiki as a whole by adding patch notes, enhancing articles, review changes by others, proofread, add more links, improve style and so on

It is customary for the Wiki Manager to ask the Wiki Curator for a final wish before retiring their role.
* You do not need to do all the work yourself - for larger topics across multiple pages help coordinate other people

** Note: Coordinate in-game and in the forum. The "Discussion" pages in the wiki are very rarely checked and most forget they even exist

* Review changes made to the relevant pages and help prettify them by proof reading, adjusting grammar, adding formatting, linkifying text that have other pages in the wiki. Feel free to verify the actual information, or ask somebody to double-check if there is any doubt.

** You can add wiki pages to your Watchlist. This will email you when they change. You don't have to check every time the page changes, but it can help to know when they do

* Encourage others to contribute to the wiki. You are not a gatekeeper controlling access, you are a facilitator. Consider using locator agents to hunt down potential wiki editors you think hold particular potential :D

If you come across a WIP page please check here to see if it is listed. If it is not (and you can't very easily hunt down the author via forum PM or in-game) then don't let the tag block you from contributing if you would like to.

The Wiki Curator Program recognizes and rewards editors who have gone above and beyond in their contributions to the UniWiki. The Wiki Department offers these outstanding individuals the title of Wiki Curator to formally acknowledge their exceptional efforts.

Wiki Curators

Wiki Curators are editors who are eager to go the extra mile to ensure both their own edits and those of others are of good quality. They are recognized as experienced contributors to the UniWiki and assist in its upkeep and development.

Wiki Curators do not need to be members of EVE University. All capsuleers are encouraged to become Wiki Curators by contributing their knowledge and expertise. While EVE University does host and administrate the UniWiki, the UniWiki serves all of New Eden; thus, all editors should feel welcome to participate in EVE University's mission to create an accurate and comprehensive resource.

Benefits of being a Wiki Curator

 • Become a member of the Wiki Department, a group dedicated to making the UniWiki into the most beautiful and truthful publicly available knowledge repository in all of New Eden
 • Gain access to the private Wiki Curator Discord channel
 • If desired, may ask for administrator Wiki rights ordinarily reserved for EVE University Managers
 • Advise the Wiki Manager, lead and propose UniWiki:Projects that will shape the future of the UniWiki
 • Receive a mention on the Wiki Department page even after you retire
 • Carry the title of "Wiki Curator" in-game if you are a member of EVE University

Becoming a Wiki Curator

You become a Wiki Curator and a member of the Wiki Department, when the Wiki Manager gives you the Wiki Curator award.

To become eligible for the Wiki Curator award you must:

 • edit the Wiki for around three months
 • maintained an activity level comparable to that of an active Wiki Curator
 • demonstrate excellence

There are many ways in which you can demonstrate excellence. Examples include:

If you believe you eligible for the Wiki Curator award, but haven't been contacted by the Wiki Manager, feel free to contact them. They will tell you what else you should do before making you into a Wiki Curator.

Responsibilities

The scope of an individual Wiki Curator's involvement varies, but in general they will:

 • monitor the Recent Changes on the UniWiki for signs of an editor that may need help or indications of trolling/vandalism
 • assist others with regards to the UniWiki in the UniWiki communication channels
 • provide or relay feedback and input to the Wiki Manager with regards to issues experienced on the UniWiki, new changes after implementation, etc.
 • assist with tests and development of new features, templates, extensions or other large-scale changes to the UniWiki
 • organize and update the UniWiki as a whole by adding patch notes, enhancing articles, review changes by others, proofread, add more links, improve style and so on

A Wiki Curator is not necessarily the top authority on a topic, but more of a coordinator for content improvement and a caretaker for existing content.

Activity requirements

To maintain Wiki Curator status, Wiki Curators are expected to maintain a reasonable level of activity by taking part in UniWiki:Projects, completing tasks on the UniWiki:To-Do List, adding UniWiki:Patch Notes or doing other UniWiki related activities. It is, unfortunately, difficult to place an exact definition of what a "reasonable level of activity" entails. Should activity levels for a particular Wiki Curator drop to a rate that the Wiki Manager does not consider sufficient, the Wiki Manager will reach out to that individual to discuss the situation and provide time for communication, improvement and understanding, prior to acting to retire their role.

It is customary for the Wiki Manager to ask the Wiki Curator for a final wish before retiring their role.
