As such you can never assume that any of our channels public or otherwise are secure, you may only assume that a fleet channel is as secure as the members in that fleet. While we can't stop the in corp spies from getting all the information they want, we can make it significantly harder for them and near impossible for out of corp spies; therefore we will observe 'Operational Security' (commonly refered to as 'OpSec') at all times.

The purpose of Operational Security (OPSEC) is to limit the amount of harmful information leaked to our enemies in any situation that may lead to PvP combat.  Given the nature of the game, it is assumed that there are numerous spies within the corporation at any given time, which makes true Operational Security difficult if not impossible.  However, when/if you leave E-Uni, the corp you join may have a more demanding security structure, so establishing good habits now can help prevent slips later on.

OpSec can be distilled into a few simple rules:
*Do not share log in information for your EVE account, teamspeak, in-game channels, or the Ivy League Forum.
+
* Not discussing openly what your PvP fleet is doing. The only channel you should be discussing fleet matters in is your Fleet channel and the ones set up by the leadership positions within that fleet.
*Do not discuss information on current or planned fleet operations in any unsecured channel.
+
* Not discussing or even mentioning planned current or recent (in the last 24 hours) fleet operations anywhere public such as the "Public Lounge" on our [[Mumble|Voice Comms]], the fleets channels or the relevant After Action Report.
*Do not reveal the identify of scouts or intel coordinating personnel in After Action Reports or other posts.
+
* Not asking for information on an active fleet - ILN leadership and Intel Officers may communicate directly with the fleet over voice comms.
*Contact an ILN officer or Ivy League Staff member if someone outside the corp asks about the above information.
+
* Not entering a secure fleet channel (both voice comms and in-game) without explicit permission from the fleet commander.
*If in doubt, ask an ILN officer or Ivy League Staff member.
+
* Not starting a fleet without giving an indication as to how long the fleet will last, and not signing up for a fleet unless you can commit to at least 50% of the expected time out.

*Do not discuss the war anywhere other than the private [[Chat Channels and Mailing Lists|E-UNI channels]] and [http://www.eve-ivy.com/forums forums]. This rule includes any alts and those who have left E-UNI for the duration of the war and expect to return

*If in need of a pick-up during wartime, request a convo from an FC in the aliance channel.  Do NOT give your location in any chat channels other than a private convo

*If a war target attempts to contact you via private convo: accept the convo, but do not reply in any manner.  Ensure that timestamping is enabled. You may terminate the convo anytime you wish.  After the convo has ended, copy the convo and forward it to the Intel department, or an ILN officer

==Who's Who==

===Director of Intelligence:===

Has broad authority to detect, prevent, contain and punish information leaks, and he takes his job very seriously.

===ILN Officers:===

Understand the types of information that can be used to compromise operations; ensure compliance of individual members; report to Ivy League Leadership any suspicious activity.

===Ivy League Members:===

If in doubt as to whether or not something should be talked about in open channels ask an ILN officer or Ivy League Staff member -before- you do say anything questionable.  It is acceptable to politely educate people who slip up, but individuals who blatantly or repeatedly violate these rules should be reported to an I LN officers or Ivy League Staff member.

==Security Assessments==

The CEO, Ivy League Directors, Management and ILN Leadership will conduct random assessments using undisclosed procedures, then take needed steps to correct any problems found.

Template:UwcEVE University is a large organisation and many of EVE's more nefarious corps like to use the University to 'clean' their Alt's employment histories so they look like a new player, others like to hang out and gather intel on our pilots before they move on to other coporations, others still just like a place to hide an alt while they spy on other corps in the game.

It should be noted that when a member leaves E-UNI, the corporation they join will often have more demanding security structure, so establishing good habits now can help prevent slips later on.

What is OpSec?

OpSec can be distilled into a few simple rules:

  • Not discussing openly what your PvP fleet is doing. The only channel you should be discussing fleet matters in is your Fleet channel and the ones set up by the leadership positions within that fleet.
  • Not discussing or even mentioning planned current or recent (in the last 24 hours) fleet operations anywhere public such as the "Public Lounge" on our Voice Comms, the fleets channels or the relevant After Action Report.
  • Not asking for information on an active fleet - ILN leadership and Intel Officers may communicate directly with the fleet over voice comms.
  • Not entering a secure fleet channel (both voice comms and in-game) without explicit permission from the fleet commander.
  • Not starting a fleet without giving an indication as to how long the fleet will last, and not signing up for a fleet unless you can commit to at least 50% of the expected time out.

Failure to follow these will typically not lead to a direct and immediate dismissal, however it will flag your membership in EVE University for 'review'.

Security Assessments

The CEO, Directors and ILN Leadership conduct constant security assessments using undisclosed procedures and take the relevant actions required. All members are asked to cooperate with requests for information made from them.
