[[EVE University]] is almost entirely run on donations and goodwill from the community, such as ISK, items and time. Everyone can get involved in a number of ways.

The aim of [[EVE University]] is to teach players about EVE Online. We see thousands of new students come through our doors every year, and it would not be possible to assist them without  the help of our members and the wider EVE Online community. We take the view that even brand new players have something they can share and help out other players with. This page sets out just a few of the ways people can help EVE University in its mission and will hopefully give you some ideas about how you personally can support us.

We have various chat channels for members. If you want to help out keep the channel open and if you know the answer to something someone is asking then tell them. Provided you know what you are talking about (try to avoid spreading misinformation!) don't be shy. You don't have to be an expert in an area to answer a question on it. If they ask a follow up question and you don't know the answer that's fine, just tell them. Maybe someone else knows and can help you both out. We have various chat channels but these ones in particular are good to keep an eye on:

=== Standings ===
+
* '''Q&A.E-Uni''' - This channel is designed specifically for people to ask questions, so set it to blink and answer any questions you know the answer to. If a member is asking a questions which requires a detailed answer, tell them in the channel that you will convo them and send them a convo request so as not to clog up the channel.
 +
* '''Chat.E-Uni''' - This is the general chat channel most of our members use, so a lot of people (particularly newer members) ask general questions in there. Keep an eye on it and see if you can help them out. This is also the channel where new members are welcomed by the Personnel Officers, so be sure to make them feel welcome.
 +
* '''E-UNI''' - This is the channel used by Personnel Officers to call applicants for their interview. If you're a member then you've already gone through the application process, so from an applicant's point of view you're an expert! Even just sharing your own experiences will help our nervous applicants out. E-Uni is also listed as a public help channel, so its almost always busy with questions about the game from non-members who are often very new to the game. Even if you're new yourself its very likely you can help them out.
 +
* '''Mess.ILN''' - This is the general chat channel for people to ask about PVP. Even if you don't have a lot of experience yet, if PVP is your thing this is the place to answer questions about it.
 +
* '''LiveIntel.ILN''' - If you're just jumping around in space and you see a war target in local, you can help out other members by providing intel in this channel. There may be someone a jump or two behind you who really needs to know about the war target you just saw burning to the gate, so don't keep it to yourself. We also have an Intel Map (see the MOTD of that channel) which you can use to report your intel in one click, easy.

Personnel Officers are responsible for checking, interviewing and integrating new recruits into EVE University. They also monitor and moderate Mumble, public chat, and corp chat. They are a good first start in officially assisting the Uni mission.

=== Other Staff Positions ===

EVE University is run as a meritocracy, and staff are appointed based on demonstrated ability to contribute to the Uni. Potential staff positions are announced on the forums as needed - a demonstrated history of contribution to the EVE University community and competence in the relevant area are essential to becoming a member of staff.

We take the view that even brand new players have something they can share and help out other players with. This page sets out just a few of the ways people can help EVE University in its mission and will hopefully give you some ideas about how you personally can support us.

Members

As a member of EVE University you will have already benefited from other members helping you out, whether it was:

  • The Personnel Officer who reviewed your application to join
  • The member who answered your questions when you were stuck
  • The Teacher who ran your first class
  • The Fleet Commander who lead you on a fleet
  • The Logistics team member who reimbursed your ship when it exploded
  • The donor who donated the ship you used from our hangars

Or any one of a huge number of people who are willing to spend their own time helping others. Even if you have only just joined EVE University, its very likely that you know something that another new member doesn't, so you really are able to help out from day one. The list below is not exhaustive, but it might give you an idea of where to start.

Answering questions

The most direct way you can help out other members is by being present in EVE University and answering questions other members may have.

Chat channels

We have various chat channels for members. If you want to help out keep the channel open and if you know the answer to something someone is asking then tell them. Provided you know what you are talking about (try to avoid spreading misinformation!) don't be shy. You don't have to be an expert in an area to answer a question on it. If they ask a follow up question and you don't know the answer that's fine, just tell them. Maybe someone else knows and can help you both out. We have various chat channels but these ones in particular are good to keep an eye on:

  • Q&A.E-Uni - This channel is designed specifically for people to ask questions, so set it to blink and answer any questions you know the answer to. If a member is asking a questions which requires a detailed answer, tell them in the channel that you will convo them and send them a convo request so as not to clog up the channel.
  • Chat.E-Uni - This is the general chat channel most of our members use, so a lot of people (particularly newer members) ask general questions in there. Keep an eye on it and see if you can help them out. This is also the channel where new members are welcomed by the Personnel Officers, so be sure to make them feel welcome.
  • E-UNI - This is the channel used by Personnel Officers to call applicants for their interview.
  • Mess.ILN - This is the general chat channel for people to ask about PVP. Even if you don't have a lot of experience yet, if PVP is your thing this is the place to answer questions about it.
  • LiveIntel.ILN - If you're just jumping around in space and you see a war target in local, you can help out other members by providing intel in this channel. There may be someone a jump or two behind you who really needs to know about the war target you just saw burning to the gate, so don't keep it to yourself. We also have an Intel Map (see the MOTD of that channel) which you can use to report your intel in one click, easy.
