Security Status Details
Security Status is a measure of how law abiding a pilot has been recently. It does not however show how law abiding a pilot may be in the future, or has been in the past.
This value ranges from -10 to +10, with a pilot losing security status for criminal offences, and gained for destruction of NPC pirates and turning in clone soldier tags at security offices -- however, it is significantly difficult, not to mention pointless, to raise security status above +5.0 as this is the cap for gains by killing regular NPC pirates.
The following actions decrease your security status:
- Illegally aggressing a capsuleer ship
- Modification: 2.5% * System security * (1 + (Target's security - Aggressor's security) / 100)
- Aggressor's new security status: (1 - Modification) * (Aggressor's security + 10) - 10
- Illegally aggressing a capsule
- Modification: 25% * System security * (1 + (Target's security - Aggressor's security) / 100)
- Aggressor's new security status: (1 - Modification) * (Aggressor's security + 10) - 10
- Illegally aggressing an npc ship or structure
- Same modification as for capsuleer ships, substituting 0 for the target's security status
It is worth mentioning that the above applies in all Empire Space. It is only in NullSec and Wormhole Space that one can commit a crime and completely get away with it.
As above, security status penalties are directly proportional to System security. System security is shown in game with a precision of one decimal point but the true value is much more precise. There is also a percentage modification of the penalty equal to the difference between the aggressor and target's security statuses, as much as 15% between a -10 and +5 capsuleer (in practice reduction by this is limited to 10% because -5 and lower capsuleers are outlaw and can be attacked without penalty). Because losses are percentage movements towards -10, this is fairly inconsequential in practice.
Security Status and Traveling Restrictions
Security status, or lack thereof, can have a big impact on your ability to travel through New Eden. As your security status falls you will begin to be attacked by the local faction police (not CONCORD) in high security space; the parts of highsec that you can enter unmolested will gradually shrink until eventually you will be attacked throughout highsec.
- -2.0 or lower will be attacked in 1.0 space
- -2.5 or lower will be attacked in 0.9 and above
- -3.0 or lower will be attacked in 0.8 and above
- -3.5 or lower will be attacked in 0.7 and above
- -4.0 or lower will be attacked in 0.6 and above
- -4.5 or lower will be attacked in 0.5 and above (all of highsec)
Note that faction police forces do not react instantly and can be avoided. Outlaws can pass through highsec fairly easily in small fast ships, if they make sure that they never stay in one place for too long.
Once your security status reaches -2 you are flagged as having a low security status to all pilots.
Once your security status reaches -5 you are considered an outlaw and can be attacked by players anywhere without CONCORD intervention or security status penalties.
Players with negative ratings can fly through all systems in a capsule, as NPCs will not attack pods, but if your rating is -5.0, anyone can target and destroy your pod without repercussion.
Repairing Security Status
It is possible to repair your security status. Please see this article for more details.
