Militia Gear
Militia Gear in Dust 514 is the lowest tier of Dropsuits, Modules, Weapons and Gear available to a Merc.
The advantages of Militia Gear is that its cheap, plentiful, and other than its CPU and PG requirements, requires no skills to use and fits to the appropriate Dropsuit or Vehicle. Its effectiveness is also influenced by the skills that a Merc using it may already have, such as Fitting and Support Skills.
Using a well thought out Militia Fitting is a good way to save Isk if money is tight.
The disadvantage is that even with a good skill set behind it, an encounter with a Merc wearing properly fit higher Meta level gear is not likely to end well. Also, there are no Militia versions of some modules and weapons. The appropriate Skills and expenditure for those items will still be needed to use them.
Two Types
There are two types of Militia Gear available on the Marketplace. Standard one shot use items, able to be purchased with Isk earned in the game. Or BPO versions purchased with the use of Aurum. The advantage of BPO versions is that once brought, you never need to buy another copy of it. A fitting made entirely from BPOs will never run out.
This is useful as a back up fitting in case you use up all one or more of the items used in another fitting and forgot to buy more before a battle. BPOs of items like Dropsuits are often cosmetically different from other items so that a Merc can differentiate themselves from others on the field of battle
