Tips?

Hi, some things I noticed:

  • = equals <h1> should only be used once per page and should thus not be used inside article content as it is already used for the title of the resulting html page. W3 schools, MDN webdocs and others al mention that there should be only one <h1>.
    • A mater of taste but I use a space between the header mark-up and the header content. I find it easier to read.
  • There exist this rather rudimentary article Forward Operating Base
  • See: Corruption and Suppression - There is a template to be used here (See also) that helps to keep the formatting consistent over the wiki.
    • But personally I think I would have used Main here.
  • See: Ambition modifier - This I would have done by first mention of ambition modifier into a link.
  • just for information the wiki has this template ColorSecurityRating to color the the security levels consistently across the wiki (0.5).

Thanks for the Tips! I will implement as best as I can. Additional thoughts, please give feedback:

  • Personally I'd like to have both Corruption and Suppression and Ambition Modifier merged into a full article as I don't know if there is enough to write on either alone without them becoming stubs.
    • Forward Operating Base Should probably be added to that list, but maybe we can get information on what other functions FOBs have as well as approximate hp pools?
  • I'm conflicted/been stymied by not having done enough research on the Insurgency activities. I feel like I should give a better description but I haven't taken time to rejoin Insurgency/FW so I can get approximate measurements, images for these sites. These are probably the most important part of the article for the average user but I don't have the information on hand.
    • Also I should find the patch where CCP claimed they tweaked the Insurgency spawning location to be closer to frontline systems, but I don't recall how late into the Havoc patch cycle that came out, or if it was even documented anywhere.
  • IS there somewhere I can get the faction icons like how we do the ship database?
  • Should I have asked about putting a new image in for the page? Is the image a good idea where it is or should it have been at the bottom under an images section?

OK, let me see if I can address this with some sense. For starters let me say I have no experience with FW so I need to be a bit general.
Merging Corruption and Suppression and Ambition Modifier into the primary article is an option but it depends as you indicated partly on hoe much there is to say about them, partly by how the details would clutter up the primary article and partly by the subjects "independency". There are no hard and fast rules about when to add to the primary article and when to keep them separate.
So let me say what, at the current state, I would probably do. For Corruption and Suppression I would keep that separate as I see that as an amount of details which would clutter the primary article making it harder to read.
For Ambition Modifier I am unsure. If I remember correctly what is in there now is more or less directly copied from the patch notes. And there is at least one point that needs clarification. This part "The Ambition Modifier can go as high as +13, requiring a side to fully corrupt or suppress 20 solarsystems for victory..." which side needs 20 the one with the modifier at 13 or the other?
Forward Operating Base I would definitely not merge into the primary article. Yes there is not much there noe but I have the feeling that there could be quit a bit more information.
But keep in mind merging or not can always been reversed if "needed".
"I should find the patch" if it is that close to the Havoc expansion it could probably be found somewhere in here https://www.eveonline.com/news/view/patch-notes-version-21-06
I just saw that Mednik answered your signature question on Discord but I repeat that info here anyway the most common way is to use ~~~~(4x). But using ~~~(3x) gives a signature without the timestamp.
Based on your recent edits I have the impression that I confused you a bit. You changed the wiki mark-up for the headings (==) into html mark-up (<h2>) that is not what I meant. Remember you are writing for a wiki, not for a website, (Yes, I know the result is a website) so you should, wherever possible use the wiki mark-up and avoid direct html as much as possible. That said the wiki mark-up for <hr> is ----.
As I said on Discord for Corruption and Suppression I would use Main but for Ambition Modifier I would keep See also or even make the first mention of Ambition Modifier into a link.
One more thing for now for the first mention of Forward Operating Base the full name should be used possible followed by (FOB) after that FOB can be used in the rest of the article. Keep in mind that the wiki is not only for the experienced but also for uninitiated who have no idea what a FOB is. -- Evon R'all (talk) 17:45, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

LOL You edited while I was typing My response. Did not modify my response so there might now be some disconnect between your and my post.

Thanks for the clarification, I was confused there! I'll keep the current state then, and let others decide on whether the Ambition Modifier and Corruption and Suppression pages should be merged in.

  • Also, is there a process to say "I would like this Draft to be reviewed for use as a page"?

Just ask so in the #wiki channel on Discord.
First remark. "Biased spawns towards conflict zones rather than rearguard systems" Noob hat on - What are conflict zones and rearguard systems? -- Evon R'all (talk) 15:22, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Good catch, conflict zone should be Frontline systems. Frontline systems are systems that are adjacent to an enemy held system. Rearguard systems are FW systems that aren't adjacent to a enemy held system or a friendly Frontline system. I don't think these terms should be defined here though, as they are terms that are used by Faction Warfare as a whole. Piscine Martin Yu (talk) 16:48, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Well, not being familiar with FW at all the name being wrong is not what I was hinting at. I agree with not defining the terms here but a link to where they are defined/explained is a good idea. After all, one of the major strong points of a wiki is the linking from terms used in an article to were the are defined/explained. Because, you know where but a fresh reader does not so should be helped with a link. Don't make them search but lead them to the "water". -- Evon R'all (talk) 18:53, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

Response to the review request at #wiki

As I am no SME on insurgency, heck I am a noob on that no experience at all, I will keep my comments to the more technical stuff.

  • You are using the Icon template. As that has been declared deprecated it should not be used for new articles anymore.
  • Noob hat on - The Pirate Faction Warfare Corporations table looks nice, but I'm a noob so I've got no idea (yet) what those images mean. Or for some technical reasons the images don't load. Either way it is a good idea to have some standard text here. Something like this maybe:
Pirate Faction Warfare Corporations
Faction FW Corporation Wars.png At War With
Guristas Pirates Guristas Commando Guri Gallente Federation Gallente
Caldari State Caldari
Angel Cartel Angels Malakim Zealots Minmatar Republic Minmatar
Amarr Empire Amarr
  • nothing technically wrong here.
Just telling you what and why I would do here. I would put it in this order . Why? Well the thumb style is applied to the file and has a default size of 300px by putting the 472px directly after the thumb parameter I can see immediately that the thumb parameter is customized.
  • Just discovered an article about shipcaster could be linked to if there is any relevance. On second look there might be a bit of vicious circle going on here Shipcaster links to Zarzakh#Deathless_Shipcaster which in turn links to shipcaster.
  • Insurgency Activities looks perfectly OK for now but in the feature as more information and maybe tactics are added the different sites may warrant their own articles.
  • Side note: articles in user space should normally not have active category links, that is why I commented it out. It is mentioned in this article UniWiki:Categorization.
  • You've put the tables and the insurgency image inside a table (for formatting purpose?) that is not how I would have done it. Why? If a narrower view on the article is used both tables and the image end up above most of the text, breaking the connection between the table/image and the section they are related to. Now of course that could be what you are aiming for. But if not, I would put the Pirate Faction Warfare Corporations table where it is now, put the image at the top of the Insurgency section and the Insurgency Activities on top of the Insurgency Activities section. Also keep in mind that links might lead directly to a specific section with as result that the tables and images might not be seen at all.

I've addressed the issues with the tables and the image parameters. I've moved the tables out of the big formatting table after reviewing on mobile and agreeing that a more adaptive format would be better. The image regrettably had to be shrunk to avoid issues but ultimately it is not a big issue.
Factions table was updated to be more newbie friendly.
Additional links added at start of page for important information (ie Faction Warfare, what are the warzones, etc).
