What is the Queue?
+
Congratulations, you have submitted an application to EVE University and have been asked to join the queue for an interview. This page explains the queue and answers some of the questions you may have.

Most often, the "Queue" people hanging around in E-UNI chat are referring to is the Application queue. Waiting in this queue is what gets your application and questionnaire reviewed by a Personnel Officer, Senior Personnel Officer, or other staff member. The Queue has two divisions, one being the Quick Queue, and the other the Interview Queue.

Joining the Interview Queue
+
If you are applying to EVE University for the first time, you will need to wait until you receive a mail from one of our Personnel Officers before joining the queue for an interview. If you are a returning member, you may join the Interview Queue immediately. Please see Returning to EVE University for full details on how to apply to return to EVE University.

Once you submit your questionnaire as part of your application you are automatically entered into the Quick Queue. At this point, if you qualify, you may be called for an interview at any time. You don't enter the Interview Queue until specifically instructed by PO staff, this being done via EVEMail. It is very possible that the PO will look to get you into an interview without asking you to enter the Interview Queue. This process will help you get in quicker. We reserve this privilige for those applicants who qualify for a fast-tracked entry.
+
To join the Interview Queue you will need to use the in-game browser. To access this, click E at the top of your Neocom in the top left of your game screen, and go to to 'Accessories' and 'Browser'.

How does it work?
When you complete and submit your questionnaire, the time-stamp is saved. This time-stamp never changes, even when you log out. The Quick Queue allows the PO staff to review your application and questionnaire even when you are offline. Once a PO or SPO has reviewed your application and questionnaire if you qualify for a fast-tracked entry they will look to contact you for an interview at that time. If you're not online or otherwise available you will be sent an EVEMail directing you to join our priority Interview Queue, referred to as the "Fast Track" queue, where you will receive top priority over any other awaiting interviewees. You will retain your original time-stamp from when you first submitted your questionnaire.
+
Open up the Queue page in your in-game browser and select an option from the drop down list. The mail from the Personnel Officer will tell you which option to select. If you are a returning member, you should read Returning to EVE University to check which option you should select.
Should your application and questionnaire be reviewed and our PO staff require further information on your questionnaire or the API and/or API of alt accounts are missing you will be asked to supply this information and then be referred to our Interview Queue to await a regular or SPO interview. If this information has not been supplied as requested by the time you'd be called to receive your interview we may not do so and simply reject your application to EVE University.
+

Please monitor your EVEMail for mailings from PO staff. You may receive a "second" mailing from PO staff on the same "subject". Do not dismiss those as duplicate mailings but take them as a final chance to correct any issue or provide missing information.
+
Once you have selected an option and pressed Submit you will see a screen indicating that you are currently in the queue for an interview. You should keep this browser window open if you are available for interview. If you leave the game or step away from your keyboard close the browser window to indicate you are not currently available for an interview.
You will receive mailings with specific instructions, based on what PO staff are needing from you, and they will then direct you to enter the Interview Queue. Please ensure you follow the directions in the EVEMail you receive. If you have any questions you may respond back to the sender of the EVEMail or you can ask any of our Personnel Officers that may be present in E-UNI, our public chat channel. Be sure that the person you speaking with is a member of our staff. There are many denizens and guests in the channel, many of who are helpful, but may not be fully aware of our current procedures.
+
While you are in the interview queue, open up the E-Uni chat channel in game, which is our public channel. To join this channel, go to a chat channel in game and select the 'Open channel window' in the top left hand corner (the button looks like a speech bubble).

If you've completed all of the steps properly and submitted information to the best of your ability as instructed in Applying to EVE University it is highly possible you can get a priority interview and if you qualify, a quicker entry into EVE University. It is our goal to see those that should be in EVE University get in as quickly as possible.

In the new window, type 'E-Uni' and click 'Join'.

What do you need to do "guarantee" yourself this? Sorry, we're not going to tell you. Each applicant is unique and not every applicant will qualify for this program. Just do your best in the application process.

What happens if you're not online and you qualify and a PO is ready to interview you? Don't worry, we'll send you a mailing that will ask you to be prepared and then enter the Interview Queue option as a "Fast Track" and chosing "I am qualified for a fast track entry or re-entry" from the drop-down selection. By waiting for your interview there you will get the highest priority for an interview.
+
Once you are in the Interview Queue please keep an eye on the E-Uni chat channel. Our Personnel Officers work through the queue to call people for interview in the order they applied. Please bear in mind it can sometimes take a few days to receive your interview, as we have a lot of applications, so please be patient while you are waiting.

Former members of EVE University who have dropped corp for a short time are also immediately eligible for Fast Track re-enty.

When you need to leave the game, or you are stepping away from your keyboard, just close the browser with the queue in it. This will remove you from the Interview Queue so you are not called while you are not available. You will not lose your place in the queue.

Can I ever lose my spot in the Queue?
No. When you first enter the Queue you're "assigned" a timestamp and the Queue tool will "remember" that.
+
When you are next in line for an interview one of our Personnel Officers will call you for an interview in this chat channel using some kind of ASCII, like in the images below:

The Queue tool is all-inclusive so even when you're asked to join the Interview Queue, or even subsequently told to join under the SPO interview option you still retain your spot based on the original timestamp.

Once PO staff make an Accept or Reject decision in the Queue tool you're then out of the Queue.

Fast Track qualified re-entries (Unista's returning from dropping corp to sit out a war), and other applicants so directed to select that queue option, are "floated" to the top of the Interview Queue so they are easily distinguished and handled in priority over other interviewees by PO staff.
+
Once you have been called for an interview, right click the Personnel Officer's name, and select “Start conversation”. Once you are in a conversation with the Personnel Officer you may close the queue window of your browser, as this is no longer required. You may, however, stay in the E-Uni channel if you like, although this is not mandatory.

Does being in the Interview Queue all the time help?
Not at all. PO staff work the Interview Queue by the interview type they are qualified to handle and based on the earliest time stamp presented, not how long you've actually been waiting in it. If you log off EVE for the night immediately after entering the Interview Queue, come back a day later, you will still be exactly where you would have been if you had spent all night being in the Interview Queue.
+
How does the queue work?
Should I leave the Interview Queue before I go afk?
+
From the Personnel Officer's side, there are several queues, which each have a different priority. When you apply to EVE University you are issued with a timestamp, which remains the same until you join EVE University. Applicants are displayed in the order which they applied to EVE University, and in the appropriate queue.

YES! You should leave the queue if you are going to be afk (away from keyboard) or too distracted with other aspects of the game. If you're actively playing the game you should also leave the queue unless you're prepared to stop your game activity and dock up immediately if called for an interview. If you are in the queue and not paying attention to E-UNI when called for your interview then your application will be pended and if this happens frequently you may find yourself being "passed over" by PO staff in favour of calling the next applicant in the queue. We may also decide to decline your application. Some POs may let you know in advance that they are starting to work on your application (a process that can take 5 to 30 minutes) so that you don't "run away". Not every PO will do this, so if you're logged into the Interview Queue you want to pay attention to E-UNI when you're prepared and waiting for your interview call.
+
The fast track queue has the highest priority, and people in that queue will ordinarily be interviewed first. The returning member queue has the second highest priority, and the New Member and Senior Personnel Officer queues have the same priority. We do not disclose the reasons for sending people to one queue over another, but please do not be concerned by the queue you have been asked to join.

Can I schedule a time for an interview?
In general, we do not schedule interviews with specific people at a specific time. Just join the queue when you can. Our POs are volunteers and they work on the queue around their schedules. There may be rare cases where this isn't true, but we'll approach you about scheduling an interview if we feel it is appropriate.
+
If you have to leave the queue, close the browser window with the queue in and you will be removed from the list. Your timestamp is saved, so you will be in the same place when you rejoin the queue.
How will I know when it's my turn for an interview?
+
The Interview
A Personnel Officer will call your name in the E-UNI public channel. Your name will show up in orange-yellow (linked), and they may use ASCII art to get attention. Some may also notify you in advance but this normally does not happen.
+
During the interview, the Personnel Officer will ask any questions necessary to make a decision on your application. If you have any other accounts, the Personnel Officer will require the API details, so ensure you have it to hand to speed up the process.

How come I have to watch for my call in E-UNI. Why can't the PO convo me?
The reason we call for you in our public channel "E-UNI" is that we expect that when you're logged into the Interview Queue you're ready to be interviewed. If PO staff convoed you and you're busy or afk you won't respond to their convo invite. And it can be very annoying to get "ninja" convoed, or convoed back.
+
If you don't understand any of the questions, or the Personnel Officer is moving too quickly, please ask them to slow down or explain the question again.

We will look to convo you directly if you have qualified for our Fast Track process from being reviewed in our Quick Queue prior to having to ask you to join the Interview Queue. If you're not online this won't happen and you'll get a mailing from the PO. If you are online and you get a convo request from a PO and it turns our you're too busy for an interview right then the PO will send you instuctions on what to do next.
+
If you are accepted into EVE University, the Personnel Officer will bring you into the corporation during the interview, and will help you set up all of your access to the forum and chat channels so you can make the best of being a member. If you need some more time before joining EVE University to get everything in order please tell the Personnel Officer this.

What is the SPO Queue?
Some applications require evaluation by a Senior Personnel Officer. People that are told to do so should enter under the SPO option when logging into the Join Queue. Your place in the queue will still show where you are in relation to all people logged into the Interview Queue. Never enter the under the SPO option for the queue unless you have been told to do so by an EVE University Personnel Officer.
+
If your application to EVE University is rejected, the Personnel Officer will send you a mail with some alternative options and instructions on how to appeal if you wish to do so. We do not disclose the reason for the decision to reject an applicant.
Is there an SPO online? Is anybody doing SPO interviews?
+
In rare cases, the Personnel Officer will need some more time to make a decision. In those cases they will explain the reason for this, and they will contact you directly after a decision has been made.

You will only know that when you are called. None of the POs that are online know if or when any SPOs will be online or doing interviews.
+
Frequently asked questions
Some people seem to be getting called first, even though I've been waiting a long time. What's going on?
There are a couple of cases where someone else might get priority, even if you're #1 in the queue. One of those cases is Fast Track re-entries; because we encourage members to leave during wartime if they need to do things that would otherwise break the WSOP, we prioritize their return to EVE University. Other priority applicants will also be in this queue selection.
+
Are there any Personnel Officers online?
Depending on the mix of folks in the queue, and the mix of the PO's that are around, some Senior Personnel Officers will jump ahead and handle the SPO cases behind you, since there are far fewer SPO's than PO's. It can also be a case of the PO's working not being able to handle your application.
+
There is currently no indication of whether there are any Personnel Officers online and interviewing. All our Personnel Officers are volunteers and they want to play the game also, so just because someone is online does not necessarily mean they are interviewing also.
These are just a couple of examples. Rest assured, if you're in the Interview Queue and see your position in it, we do as well. We're trying our best to get people moved through fairly and quickly.
+
You can see a list of all of our Personnel Officers on the Personnel Department page. Please do not send them unrequited convo requests. If you need to speak to a Personnel Officer because there is a problem with your application, please ask in the E-Uni channel. If there is no response, please send an in-game mail to one of our Personnel Officers.
Please note that we no longer display to you the numbered spot you hold when logged into the Interview Queue. Due to the various queuing options and a high incidence of applicants not paying attention for their call (basing it on the number they were seeing) we have removed this from your view. It's effectively irrelevant in any case.
+
What is my position in the queue?
Why is no one being called for interviews? Seems like it's been awhile!
PO's are players, too, so we try to play the game ourselves -- just because a PO is online doesn't mean that they're actively interviewing. Just as there are periods where half a dozen (or more!) PO's are interviewing at once, there are also bound to be stretches where no one is.
+
We used to have an indicator which told you where you were in the Interview Queue. However, this has now been removed because it was confusing to new members, as there are several interview queues and so the number actually bears little relevance to how long it will be until you are called to interview. It also meant that people who were not number one were not expecting an interview call and were often not paying attention.
It's also possible that we're busy moderating the E-UNI public chat channel or keeping an eye on it. You can help reduce this possibility by helping each other out and following the chat channel policies.
+
Do not worry about your position in the queue, just ensure you have the browser window and E-Uni channel open when you are available for an interview, so you do not miss your call.
Are there any PO's on?
+
What should I do if I miss my interview call?
Most certainly -- it is very seldom that no one is on that can interview, but keep in mind that the Personnel staff like to play the game and have other things to do, too. If you have the queue window open (even if it's minimized), and you see your position in the queue, rest assured that any PO's that want to interview will see you there.
+
Our Personnel Officers will call you for interview in the E-Uni channel three times. If you don't respond, they will send you a mail to inform you. If you miss your interview call because you were not paying attention or were called away on an emergency, please mail the Personnel Officer back to explain and advise that you are now available for an interview.

If you must know, the list of active PO staff is here: List of Personnel Officers. Feel free to add them to your watchlist. It's appreciated if you do not convo them directly (especially if they might be in PVP engagements) unless you see them chatting in E-UNI chat channel, but this will help to answer your question.
+
You will then be placed back in the queue and will be called again when you reach the top of the queue again. Please note that if this happens several times, your application may be rejected.

Why are there times when no interviews are happening?
Just as sometimes there are half a dozen personnel officers doing interviews, sometimes there are times when no one is. Being a personnel officer in EVE University is a volunteer duty, and we prefer not to burn ourselves out (sometimes we fly spaceships around!). There are no schedules or shifts, although we do our best to accept PO's from each timezone. Rest assured that there are a couple of dozen people that do interviews, and each does several each week. The queue will move and you will eventually get an interview, so please be patient with us as we work to get everyone interviewed.
What happens if I'm not watching the channel when my name is called?
This varies by PO. Sometimes another PO will go ahead and call you. Other PO's will simply not call you for the rest of the day. If it happens more than once, you might find yourself waiting awhile as staff invest a fair amount of time in getting ready for your interview, and we'd rather interview people that are responsive. In cases where we notice an applicant is habitually not paying attention to E-UNI we will simply decline your application.

Please keep in mind that when you enter the Interview, no matter which interview option you are queued up for, and no matter which number you are you can get called at anytime. If you can't pay attention to the "E-UNI" chat channel then please don't enter the Interview Queue until you are prepared to watch for your name being called.
Simply log out of the queue if you aren't going to be watching actively to prevent this from being an issue.

Revision as of 15:33, 1 March 2014

Congratulations, you have submitted an application to EVE University and have been asked to join the queue for an interview. This page explains the queue and answers some of the questions you may have.

Joining the Interview Queue

If you are applying to EVE University for the first time, you will need to wait until you receive a mail from one of our Personnel Officers before joining the queue for an interview. If you are a returning member, you may join the Interview Queue immediately. Please see Returning to EVE University for full details on how to apply to return to EVE University.

To join the Interview Queue you will need to use the in-game browser. To access this, click E at the top of your Neocom in the top left of your game screen, and go to to 'Accessories' and 'Browser'.

Open up the Queue page in your in-game browser and select an option from the drop down list. The mail from the Personnel Officer will tell you which option to select. If you are a returning member, you should read Returning to EVE University to check which option you should select.

Once you have selected an option and pressed Submit you will see a screen indicating that you are currently in the queue for an interview. You should keep this browser window open if you are available for interview. If you leave the game or step away from your keyboard close the browser window to indicate you are not currently available for an interview.

While you are in the interview queue, open up the E-Uni chat channel in game, which is our public channel. To join this channel, go to a chat channel in game and select the 'Open channel window' in the top left hand corner (the button looks like a speech bubble).

In the new window, type 'E-Uni' and click 'Join'.

When you need to leave the game, or you are stepping away from your keyboard, just close the browser with the queue in it. This will remove you from the Interview Queue so you are not called while you are not available. You will not lose your place in the queue.

When you are next in line for an interview one of our Personnel Officers will call you for an interview in this chat channel using some kind of ASCII, like in the images below:

Once you have been called for an interview, right click the Personnel Officer's name, and select “Start conversation”. Once you are in a conversation with the Personnel Officer you may close the queue window of your browser, as this is no longer required. You may, however, stay in the E-Uni channel if you like, although this is not mandatory.

How does the queue work?

From the Personnel Officer's side, there are several queues, which each have a different priority. When you apply to EVE University you are issued with a timestamp, which remains the same until you join EVE University. Applicants are displayed in the order which they applied to EVE University, and in the appropriate queue.

If you have to leave the queue, close the browser window with the queue in and you will be removed from the list. Your timestamp is saved, so you will be in the same place when you rejoin the queue.

The Interview

During the interview, the Personnel Officer will ask any questions necessary to make a decision on your application. If you have any other accounts, the Personnel Officer will require the API details, so ensure you have it to hand to speed up the process.

If you don't understand any of the questions, or the Personnel Officer is moving too quickly, please ask them to slow down or explain the question again.

If you are accepted into EVE University, the Personnel Officer will bring you into the corporation during the interview, and will help you set up all of your access to the forum and chat channels so you can make the best of being a member. If you need some more time before joining EVE University to get everything in order please tell the Personnel Officer this.

If your application to EVE University is rejected, the Personnel Officer will send you a mail with some alternative options and instructions on how to appeal if you wish to do so. We do not disclose the reason for the decision to reject an applicant.

In rare cases, the Personnel Officer will need some more time to make a decision. In those cases they will explain the reason for this, and they will contact you directly after a decision has been made.
