Revision as of 23:24, 13 April 2014
Using a few scripts on the EVE University server, E-UNI has the corporation calendar feed published as an iCalendar feed, which is usable on a number of other applications and systems
Members may then add the feeds to their normal calendar software, phones and PDAs to help them track what events and classes are running.
Note that 'Classified' events do not show any information about the event, only its existence. In this case, members should check the forums for full information on the event.
Using the Calendar
Adding to Google Calendar
Either:
- Go to calendar.eveuniversity.org and click the "Add to Google Calendar" link,
or:
- Open your Calendar, then click "Add" under "Other Calendars" and select "Add by URL".
- In the box, enter
webcal://calendar.eveuniversity.org/e-uni.ics
, and click "Add Calendar".
You can add an individual event to your personal Google calendar by clicking on the event and then clicking "Copy to My Calendar" (this is under the "More Actions" dropdown if you're accessing the calendar from within Google Calendar as opposed to eveuniversity.org). This is handy if you want the events that interest you to appear on your personal calendar. Please note that this is copy of the event and any future changes to the original event will not be reflected in your copy.
(Optional) To show EVE time beside your local time and enable adding events to your calendar in GMT:
- Go into "Calendar Settings" in the upper right of the calendar page
- Under the "General" tab in the "Your current time zone" section, select the "Display all time zones" checkbox and then click on "Show an additional time zone"
- Scroll through the list to find "(GMT+00:00) GMT (no daylight saving)" and then click "Save"
Adding to iCal
Either:
- Go to calendar.eveuniversity.org and click the "Add the E-UNI Calendar via WebCal/iCalendar" link,
or:
- Open iCal, then select "Subscribe..." from the "Calendar" menu.
- In the box, enter
webcal://calendar.eveuniversity.org/e-uni.ics
, and click "Subscribe".
The calendar will then appear under the Subscriptions heading.
Adding to Outlook 2007
- Go to Account settings
- Go to the tab "internet calendar"
- Click "new"
- Paste
webcal://calendar.eveuniversity.org/e-uni.ics
in the field that appears - Change the settings as you wish, such as changing the name.
- Back in the calendar panel: Next to your every-day calendar check the E-UNI calendar which should have appeared under "other calendars"
- Both calendars are then shown next to other. By clicking on the left arrow in the E-UNI calendar tab you get an overlay view with your every-day calender.
Adding and Editing Events
The ability to add and edit events is open to members with Sophomore status or above.
To add corp and alliance events to the calendar, just add them as you would for your own event, but select the "Corp" or "Alliance" radio buttons.
Some points of note:
- The calendar can be edited both in-game and on EVE Gate.
- After an event starts, it is not possible to make edits.
- Classes and events should be scheduled as Alliance events. This allows all members of IVY, including HALL, to see events in-game.
- Marking an event as "Important" will flag it as 'classified' in the calendar feed. This should be used for any event that is not open to non-IVY members.
- You can't create links in event descriptions directly, but you can drag and drop links from almost everywhere else.
- Ensure you include the URL to any relevant forum posts.
- If the same event occurs more than once in a day, create one event per timeslot.
- However, don't spam the calendar or you'll find yourself in trouble.
- The calendar editing role also allows you to edit and post Corporation and Alliance bulletins. These shouldn't be messed with!
Removing Events
- After an event starts, it is not possible to make edits.
- If an event is cancelled, change the title to [CANCELLED] and it will disappear from the feed. Do not just delete events!
- It is not feasible to manually delete events from the Google Calendar feed. If they do not disappear through the automatic method stated above, management is not able to remove events manually. (It is due to how the iCal protocol synchronizes from the API.)
