The Teaching Department is responsible for providing educational content for EVE University members and the EVE Online public at large. We are always looking for knowledgeable players to help us in this venture. We provide live classes, practical exercises, and a freely available library of recorded classes on most aspects of EVE. We also maintain a library of slide packs for our teachers and guest lecturers to use, all available to everyone in the EVE Online community. The department is part of the Education Directorate.

The Teaching Department schedules an average of 30 classes a month across all time-zones, reaching about 500–600 students per month. Most classes are open to the public; we are here to teach anyone who wants to learn, not just EVE-Uni members. We have regular guest lecturers supporting the Teaching Department, as well as many special classes and lectures given by well-known "personalities" from all parts of the game.

For students

Main article: Attending classes

Most of our classes are open to the public, with live discussion and live screen sharing on the publicly-accessible classroom channels on our Discord. This means that anyone can attend most of our classes, regardless of whether or not they are a member of EVE University.

As well as live classes, we have a large collection of recorded classes on many different subjects. These include additional special lectures available in the main EVE Uni Class Library.

Our wiki is the standard general reference tool for the EVE community and has a large collection of 'how-to' guides on many subjects.

For teachers

If you are interested in teaching for EVE University check out Teaching Classes at EVE University, and reach out to our Teaching Department via our public Discord channel (#teaching-general), forums or EVEMail.

Due to staff turnover and game changes, we are always looking for experienced players to teach classes and share their knowledge.

Members of EVE University can teach classes, and non-members can contribute as guest lecturers: we know that the wider player community has a wealth of experience that our students are interested in, but which Uni staff do not always know in detail.

If you are new to teaching or you have never taught for EVE University before, please contact a member of the teaching department staff before scheduling your class. We will be keen to help!

The Teaching Manager oversees the teachers and guest lecturers. They are also responsible for the teaching and training resources EVE University provides.

The Role of a Teaching Officer

Teaching Officers support EVE University's teachers and guest lecturers. They undertake a number of roles including (but not limited to):

  • Support and development of new and existing teachers - teachers are the Uni's lifeblood, supporting them is the Teaching Department's privilege.
  • The maintenance and upkeep of teaching resources - with around 60 class slide decks available, TOs work with with Subject Matter Experts on the interminable task of ensuring our resources remain up-to-date.
  • Development of new classes - either with our SMEs or as SMEs themselves in order to ensure that new and evolving content is being taught.
  • Engaging with external agencies and arranging Guest Lecturers to teach - they who bring different perspectives and experiences to our students which is always appreciated.
  • Ensuring that key classes are taught regularly - it is important that our classes are taught across time zones so that as many of our students as possible get access to them.
  • Provision of administrative support to the department - it's important that our records are maintained so that our teachers are supported and recognized for their amazing efforts.
  • Development of new process and systems - we're always looking to improve the smooth running of the department and to reduce administrative overheads without impacting the quality of our output.
  • The continuous improvement of teaching within EVE University - we always want to finding new ways to do things better, and to be better.
