Welcome to EVE University
Hello & Welcome to Eve University!
By joining EVE Online's premier learning institution, you have taken one of the many steps to becoming successful in New Eden. If you have not yet joined the University, proceed to Applying to EVE University to learn how to get started.
Reminders
These important first steps should not be ignored by new University pilots, and should be completed as soon as possible. Take the time to go through all the steps listed below. This will save you a lot of time and confusion as well as help to properly orient you and get you involved in the Uni.
First: Chat channels and their use
- "Corp" chat tab is used to request skillbook reimbursement, hangar requests, etc. This is also where questions about university policies or clarifications about where to ask should go.
- "Alliance" chat tab is for fleet formation. You should only be typing in Alliance to form or join a fleet. To understand how fleets are formed in alliance please read The Rookie's Guide To Fleet Ops. If you still have questions please ask them in corp chat.
- Chat.E-UNI is the general chat channel for the university. Questions about fleets, fleet formation or Wartime SOP should not be asked there but should instead be asked in Corp chat.
- Q&A.E-UNI is a chat-free question and answer channel. Feel free to ask all sorts of questions there. You will find it free of chat so your important questions will not get lost in the constant din of social chatter in other channels.
- Be sure you check out what is listed in each channel's MOTD (Message of the Day) as they contain important notes, reminders, and some links relevant to each channel.
- Other channels can be found here Chat Channels and Mailing Lists.
Second: Is the University at war?
With the launch of the Inferno expansion the Uni (Ivy League) has seen itself almost under constant war from one corporation/alliance or another. Be sure to read through Applying to EVE University During War so that you understand your options and what we expect of you.
First Steps in Eve University
Step 1: Bookmark these Pages
- Bookmark these sites for future reference in the In-Game Browser (IGB) or your favorite browser.
Step 2: Introduce Yourself
- Note: This step may not be possible for applicants relocating to Aldrat or awaiting role cool down until you are fully accepted into the University
- Navigate to: Hi and Bye forum
- Make a post in the Hi and Bye forum and let us know you better.
- This is a requirement to obtain the Freshman status.
Step 3: Setup Communications
- Read: Install and Setup Mumble
- A crucial step in attending classes and participating in official university operations (ie. Fleets).
Step 4: Understand Our Rules
- Read: EVE University Rules & Wartime Standard Operating Procedures
- You are expected to read, understand, and follow all Rules at all times, and the WSOP when the university is at war.
Step 5: Configuring the Ship Overview
- Read: Overview Guide.
- Configuring your overview to the University standard is a great learning process about your overview.
- University Standard Overviews are required for fleet operations.
- The other thing required for fleet operations is reading and understanding the The Rookie's Guide To Fleet Ops
Step 6: There is no "6"
Origins for "There is no 6"
Step 7: Check Corporation/Alliance Bulletins
- Find: In Game NeoCom > Corporation Button > Home Tab
- Corporation Bulletins are found under the Home Tab.
- Alliance Bulletins are found under the Alliances Tab.
- You'll find our passwords under the alliances bulletins.
Step 8: Coming to Aldrat
- Moving In: Once you have settled in, a lot of Unistas tend to move into the Metropolis region, or Aldrat itself. You do not have to move here - you can usually attend classes from anywhere in the galaxy - however the corp hangars are located here and this is where most of our practical activities take place.
- Be mindful when travelling with cargo haulers - especially when moving through low security (0.1 - 0.4) and null security (0.0) systems.
- DO NOT go AFK at gates in such systems - they are very dangerous and there is a high likelihood you will lose your possessions.
- TIP: If you set 'Aldrat' as your Autopilot destination, you can adjust the Autopilot settings to avoid low and null security systems - while the journey may be a little longer, it will be a lot safer. You can access Autopilot settings by opening your Map screen [F10] and then selecting the Autopilot tab > Settings.
- Wartime Hauling If you have decided that you really want to move to Aldrat then you must consider that hauling your stuff in will be very dangerous, especially once you reach Hek, and then into the "pipeline" to Aldrat. Many a new Unista have lost their assets moving through this area. It is highly recommended that you either wait (and just show up with a PvP fit frigate, don't worry, we'll supply you with stuff) or if you need you can find an OOC (Out of Corp) hauling alt (many Unistas have hauling alts) to help you move stuff.
Step 9: Review the Consolidated Information Page
- Please take the time to review the page: Eve University Consolidated Information.
- It is meant to introduce you to the programs & information you'll need to get the most out of your time at the University.
Step 10: I feel lost, what do I do next?
- We have a wealth of information in our recorded class Library that you can find here: EVE University Class Library.
- If are looking for some specific help in a single or specialized area you may want to look into getting a Mentor through: Mentor Program
- Again, review the Consolidated Information Page (notice we plug that a lot on this page?) here: EVE University Consolidated Information
