Archive:Applying to EVE University During War
Eve University occupies a unique position in EVE. In theory, as the largest hi-sec corporation in EVE, and containing a large proportion of new players, Eve University would represent one of the most attractive targets in EVE. The reality is different; in order to prevent constant wardecs, the closure of the corp and the loss of new players, Eve University has wartime policies that allow us to continue to function and provide both PvP and PvE while mounting an effective defence that frustrates griefers and those looking for easy kills.
About War in Eve University
A corporation declares war by paying CONCORD a fee to do so. Once at war, the corporations involved may shoot, kill and pod each other in high security space without CONCORD response. At the end of a one week period, the fee is paid again, or the war expires. There are no victory conditions or special gameplay mechanics.
New players can and do make valuable contributions in PvP combat. New players typically fly frigates as a "tackler", whose job is to pin down the enemy while the larger and slower ships move in for the kill. Our corporate hangars can provide the needed ships and modules for free, which you can then insure and lose.
During war large Eve University fleets typically form 2 or 3 times a day. Small fleets form from time to time, but expect to spend some time doing nothing in station. War in hi-sec space can often descend into frustrating games of 'cat and mouse', with one side unwilling to engage when the other side has an advantage.
Group PvP in EVE is different from other MMOs - most of the time is spent in preparation, maneuvering, and gathering intelligence - the actual battle is short and often decided before it begins.
Wartime Cautionary
With the launch of the Inferno expansion the Uni (Ivy League) has found itself almost constantly at war with one corporation/alliance or another. With how our recruiting system currently works you can find yourself accepted into the Uni "without warning" and suddenly a valid war target to our enemies. It's important that once you fully apply to the Uni you are fully prepared to be at war. Make sure you check your mail and notifications. If you have toggled the blink off for either of these we suggest you toggle them back on. Whenever you log into the game after fully applying always check your information to see if you've been accepted. The onus is on you to be prepared to be at war.
- Take the time to set up your Overview as per our Overview Guide.
- Read through and become familiar with our Wartime Standard Operating Procedures.
- Do not immediately start hauling all your possessions to our HQ located at Pator Tech School in Aldrat should you find yourself accepted into the Uni. Our enemies love to camp common routes leading into Aldrat especially the the Aldrat - Hek pipeline and most major and some minor Trade Hubs. You may move stuff in advance if you wish. Moving all your stuff to Aldrat isn't necessary. You will find in EVE it can be very useful to have stuff in various places through out New Eden. Consider using an OOC (Out-of-Corp) Hauler Alt and you can follow our guide Creating an Alt Hauler.
- Register for our forums via ingame browser on http://forum.eveuniversity.org/register/
- Install and Setup Mumble and join in and get talking to us.
- If you find yourself in the Uni be sure you dock-up and get yourself perpared for war prior to continuing on. Again, our enemies are adept at finding and killing solo Unista's who are unprepared or not paying attention.

Applicants and corp members have a choice
Those who wish to fight in the war remain in or join the E-UNI corporation itself. Whilst at war, full E-Uni members have restrictions placed on the types and fits of ships they can fly along with challenges in doing mining, missioning, and exploration activities. Full E-Uni members should not haul during times of war. Many Uni members will use an OOC (Out-of-Corp) hauler alt.
Those who wish to continue on as normal during wartime, engaging in unrestricted activities, may leave the UNI for the duration of the war. Although not technically in the UNI, these players may continue to participate in University classes, work with other members, and are generally considered to be Eve University members, with some limitations.
Both groups gather in a common chat channel, which is the equivalent of a typical Corp chat window. Our internal Corp chat is used for military and wartime related messages, and for requesting resources. The PO will provide you with the details for this common channel when you complete the interview.
Please note that the decision you make is not final, and you can always later decide to join for the war - or to later leave if the war is preventing you enjoying the game. However note that returning to the corporation requires that you re-apply, which takes up our PO's time! For a lot more information on leaving and joining for wars later, please read this page.
Option 1: Join The Forums, Join the Chat Channel, Join for War
- Register for our forums via ingame browser on http://forum.eveuniversity.org/register/
- Make sure you have read the text above, our Wartime SOP, and that you understand that war can restrict what you can safely do a lot of the time.
- Understand that while the Uni is at war you will have to exercise some basic precautions and that any losses or other actions that violate the Wartime SOP may result in your being kicked from the Uni. Hauling is strongly discouraged during wartime.
- Follow our normal application instructions. When you are accepted you will receive an evemail regarding Wartime Regulations. If you are interviewed the PO that interviews you will discuss your options with you and answer any questions.
- It's a good idea to bring more than 1 combat ship if possible - frigates are ideal for starting pilots. We can provide fittings and advice in the event you cannot provide your own.
Your PO will authorize your access to the relevant sections of the forums via the Welcome evemail they send, or in an interview, and provide you with the initial details to access the Chat channel. Once you have joined the channel, they will introduce you if you were interviewed, otherwise go ahead and introduce yourself.
Option 2: Join and Drop for War
Access to resources such as skillbooks and hangars are not available in this situation, however our chats, classes and forums are a large component of Eve University, and as such they are full of useful information for all pilots, whether a currently in the Uni or sitting out a war. Once the war ends, you have 2 weeks to rejoin the special "fast track" queue for readmission. This option may be more suitable for those who are not focused on PvP. With the introduction of the Inferno expansion the Uni has been constantly under a number of different wars. Realistically you should expect the Uni to continue to be at war for the time being. Once you feel ready you are welcome to re-join the queue as a wartime re-entry to again be "fast tracked" back in.
- Register for our forums via ingame browser on http://forum.eveuniversity.org/register/
- Follow our normal application instructions, and state that you would like to become a member but sit out the war.
Your PO will send you a Welcome letter that will have information on this and how to update your access to our forums, and how to access our various chat channels, or if you're interviewed they will authorize your access to the relevant sections of the forums, and provide you with the initial details to access the Chat channel. Once you have joined the channel, they will introduce you.
