Neutrality

EVE University is a 'neutral' corporation. This means we avoid getting involved in the politics of EVE Online. This page sets out in more detail the reason for our neutrality and how it works in practice, both as a guide for members and an explanation for non-members.

Why is EVE University neutral?

EVE University is first and foremost a teaching organisation. We aim to teach players, both old and new, about how to get along in New Eden. We have various campuses and activities to give people a taste of different areas of the game. The majority of our members will at some point leave EVE University and join another corporation.

The reason we stay neutral is we want our alumni to be able to pursue whatever path they choose after they leave EVE University. What we don't want is for our actions, or those of our members, to prevent a person joining a corporation/alliance or doing what they want to do in the game. Through this policy we have a wide network of alumni in almost every large group in the game, which provides a range of opportunities for our members.

How does EVE University as a corporation maintain its neutrality?

Maintaining neutrality in EVE Online is incredibly difficult! Anything that involves interacting with third parties has a possibility of affecting our neutrality so we have to be careful as a corporation not to invoke any bias. For example, we are keen to encourage guest lecturers to come and teach our members about EVE Online. But we are careful to avoid becoming too linked with any particular group or alliance, say by inviting only their members to come and talk for us.

We also have a very open diplomatic policy, with an invitation for anyone to apply for a non-aggression pact. Sometimes there is a good reason we cannot grant this, but everyone is able to request this, and every request will be judged fairly on its merits, regardless of the political affiliation of the group making the request.

What do EVE University members need to do to maintain our neutrality?

In order to maintain neutrality we require our members to limit their gameplay in some ways. While we understand this can something be frustrating on a personal level, we strongly believe that it is in the best interests of the corporation.

The following things are things that would break our neutral position and are prohibited:

• Violating our rules of engagement by, for example, taking aggressive action against a player or group which has a non-aggression pact with EVE University
• Indirectly violating our rules of engagement by, for example, selling a killright against a player with a non-aggression pact with EVE University, to allow another person to take aggressive action against them
• Taking aggressive action against any player owned structures (being a citadel, POS, POCO or any other permanently placed structure owned by a player or a player organisation). The only time our members are permitted to take aggressive action against a player owned structure is with permission from either a Director, a Diplomat or the Campus Manager in the area of space where the structure is placed
• Using an entosis link against a player owned structure without permission from a Director, a Diplomat or the Campus Manager in the area of space where the structure is placed
• Using EVE University membership, communication channels or resources to benefit another group. For example, by using their status as an EVE University member to spy on another group and maintain an innocent appearance
• Using an alt which is clearly linked to EVE University or a character in EVE University to bypass any of EVE University's rules, including those on neutrality
