To be "aligned" in EVE usually means travelling in a straight line towards a potential warp destination at 75% or more of your ship's maximum speed. When a ship is already aligned, it can warp near-instantly on command along its line of alignment.

For mining ships which need to be able to make a quick getaway, it is useful to be able to mine while staying aligned. This page explains how.

What you will need

  1. A medium Higgs Anchor rig
  2. A fast ship
  3. Your Procurer

Preparation

  1. Install the Higgs Anchor rig on your barge. This will slow a Procurer down to 50 m/s max speed.
  2. In your fast ship, go to your instadock at the structure in which you are based.
  3. Find the rock you want to mine. It's best if you try to find two of the same type close to each other.
  4. Warp at 20km to the rock.
  5. Lock the rocks you want to mine so that you can easily see distances.
  6. Prepare to create Bookmark 1. Ctrl-b to bring it up and type in the name. Don’t press "ok" yet!
  7. Manually pilot to pass near to the rock, but not directly into it. (Double-click in space)
  8. Watch your distances. Once you’re just within your mining range, make your first bookmark.
  9. Prepare to create bookmark 2.
  10. Keep watching your distances. They will go down, then back up. Once you are close to your maximum mining range, drop Bookmark 2.
  11. Turn your propulsion module on. Keep burning until you are several hundred kilometres away; 400–500 km is good. (This is why you’re using a fast ship!)
  12. Create Bookmark 2 safe spot; call it something like "2 safe"

How to mine

  1. Warp at 0 to Bookmark 1, If you are too far off, approach Bookmark 1.
  2. Approach Bookmark 2
  3. Lock rocks and turn on strip miners
  4. Set speed to just over 75%. This still lets you instawarp if needed.
  5. When you get very close to Bookmark 2, approach Bookmark 1.

How to escape

  • Have your view set so that you can see the safe bookmark you are going towards:
    • "2 safe" when heading towards Bookmark “2”
    • Instadock when heading towards Bookmark 1.
  • When something shows up on grid, or d-scan (you are spamming it, correct?) right-click on your safe bookmark and warp at 0. You can then turn off your strip miners and recall your drones. (They might not make it.)
  • You’re now either 400km away and can warp to an astrahaus, or you’re tethered and can dock easily.
