Locator agents are regular NPC agents that offer the special service to locate another player character.

The players will never receive a notification that they have been located, making the service ideal for tracking down war targets or players with [[Kill Rights]].
You can find locator agents via: [http://eve-online.itemdrop.net/eve_db/agents/] check the box "Location Service".

You need the standings to access the agent to use its location service.

When you talk to the locator agent, you will have a button to locate a character beside the request mission button.

You have to type in the name of the character and the locator agent will give you a quote how much it will cost (Note that the lower the price the closer the target player is to your location, so you can determine without paying money whether the target is in another region, just another constellation or in your system [if it's the latter I doubt you will keep the ship you are flying for long]).

The locator agent will then run its location service which will take a couple of minutes, depending on its level (the higher the level the faster he runs).

Once done the locator agent will send you a Notification with the location of the target which will include the system, constellation and region as well as the station the player might be docked at (Note that you see that the target is in space when there is no station).

E.g. "The sleazebag is currently in the Bukah system, Nohshayess constellation of the Khanid region."

Note that a lvl.3/4 locator agent can find people in wormholes as well, though that's of limited use: "The sleazebag is currently in the J215736 system, Unknown constellation of the Unknown region." Yay.

Locator Agents, for a fee, can find the location of another player character within a certain region (excluding Wormholes). Locator Agents require high Faction Standings to work with. Edit: Corporation standing works as well.

The players will never receive a notification that they have been located, making the service ideal for tracking down war targets or players with Kill Rights.

Kinds of Locator Agents

The table shows that a Level 3 Agent:

  • will only work for those who have at least 3.0 Faction Standing or 3.0 with the corporation
  • that they can locate the target only every 15 minutes
  • that if the target is in the same region as the Agent it will:
    • cost 50 000 ISK
    • take the Agent 4 minutes to send an EVEmail with the location of the target
Agent information Cost and time to locate based on target distance from Agent

1 Any 5min 1k, instantaneous 5k, 1min Cannot find Cannot find
2 1.0 5min 5k, instantaneous 10k, 20s 25k, 2min Cannot find
3 3.0 15min 10k, instantaneous 25k, 30s 50k, 4min 100k, 8min

How to use Locator Agents

Locator Agent's "Locate Character" button
  1. Find a Locator Agent using the in game The Agency or List of Locator Agents.
  2. Dock with the station where the Locator Agent is located.
  3. Talk to the Locator Agent to open the Agent Conversation window.
  4. Click on the Locate Character button.
  5. A textbox will appear where you can write the name of the target you want to locate.
  6. Accept the price quote[1].
  7. Wait to receive an EVEmail from the Agent.
  8. Receive the target's location, when you start the search, which will include the system, constellation, region, and even station if they were docked.

The outcome also depends on the location and status of the target:

  • If the target is in space, no station will be given.
  • If the target is offline the Agent will give you the target's last known location, but will not tell you if they are offline.
  • If the target is in a Wormhole, the Agent will say "I'm sorry, but I just can't help you with that one. I'm pretty sure <Target> is well out of my zone of influence."

For wormhole groups, locator agents are used to find OpFor hole control pilots. This helps to determine the location of a High Sec Static which is under hole control.

  1. ^ The lower the price the closer the target player is to your location, so you can determine without paying ISK whether the target is in another region, another constellation, or in your system.
