Mission briefing

Our engineering scientists, working at our highly secure, clandestine RDfacility on a nearby planet have produced a new type of cloaking device that, when fitted to Covert Ops ships, could theoretically enable them to jump through stargates without uncloaking! And yes, I can see by the look on your face that you must think I've had far too many Extra Strength Quafe sodas today. However, I can assure you that, while it may be many years before this technology is perfected and suitable for even experimental use, the science behind it is quite real, and this is where this story takes a very important twist. Our internal security teams have managed to uncover a plan formulated by one of our competitors to steal the prototype cloaking system at some point between the time it leaves the lab up until it arrives at the field testing facility over in the next system. Problem is, we don't yet know who the spy is, so we devised a plan to get that spy to expose himself so that we can then move in and make the arrest. To this end, you will be delivering is a very detailed mock-up series of the actual prototype, one that will withstand an initial visual and electronic scrutiny on the part of the thief. In all practical terms, however, these devices could no more cloak a ship than it could cook your morning breakfast. We are naming this event Operation Doorstop, which is our planning team's attempt at humor, given the uselessness of this particular lump of metal and wires. What we do need, though, is your absolute confidentiality on this shipment. If the spy gets any whiff that this is a set-up, we will likely never know who he or she is, and we will remain at ongoing risk of one of our most important R&D projects potentially falling into the wrong hands.
